Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Seabrook, Texas. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is a leader in hair testing with locations across all cities nationwide ready to perform these tests. Generally, hair from the crown of your head or body can be used if it's between 1.5 to 2 inches. Hair analysis can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized options.

Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly included hair follicle tests. Many organizations, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts prefer hair tests over standard urine tests. Employers with strict drug policies, courts, and those on probation often use these tests. A significant advantage of hair follicle testing is the extended detection period of up to 90 days, collected under observation making it nearly impossible to tamper with. Yet, for recent drug use detection within five days, urine tests remain accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a compelling method for discovering drug and alcohol use. Hair captures a long-term record of substances by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When collected near the scalp, hair can offer up to a roughly 3-month detection window for substances. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively secure from tampering, and convenient for shipping.

A 1.5-inch sample comprised of about 200 strands of hair, similar to the width of a #2 pencil, nearest the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the preferred quantity for assessment and verification. For EtG, additional, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. It’s recommended to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, an equivalent amount of body hair may be gathered. When discussing head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair refers to all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary stages in the lab processing of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial handling of a sample into the lab’s system. It entails confirming the sample's proper sealing and dispatching, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any extra data input not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening includes a preliminary evaluation for abuse drugs. Although Screening is an economical way to dismiss drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must be verified to be permissible in court. Any samples that are likely positive in Screening do require further confirmation.

If a sample appears likely positive in the Screening phase, more hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a concentration significantly lower than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is carried out via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as needed. The full laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests which have a shorter detection window.
  • Challenging to deceive: It is notoriously hard to deceive a hair drug test, thereby enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It can reveal a pattern of substance use over a span of time, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to spot recent use: It requires about 5-7 days for substances to show in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: While commonly known as "hair follicle tests", the actual examination analyzes the hair strand rather than the follicle under the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Seabrook, TX stems from its superiority in detection longevity and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair tests can uncover substance use history over a longer timeframe, typically up to 90 days. This broader detection range makes hair testing a more effective solution for employers seeking comprehensive insights into an employee's or candidate's drug usage.

In comparing hair and urine tests, the hair follicle option offers enhanced accuracy and decreases the risk of sample manipulation. Employers with zero-tolerance policies find this reliability crucial. Consequently, opting for hair testing in Seabrook, TX means benefitting from a more reliable, less intrusive testing method that provides clear, uncompromised results.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Seabrook, TX is one of the leading advantages of hair follicle testing. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
