Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Shawville, Texas. If a hair drug or alcohol analysis is needed, Accredited Drug Testing is a specialist in hair examinations. We have centers in every city nationwide that can facilitate a hair test. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is typically required. Hair evaluations can be conducted for drug, alcohol/ETG analyses or other personalized hair testing services.

Recently, hair follicle testing has increasingly become the method of choice for drug screening. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts demand hair testing over the traditional urine analysis. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and individuals under probation find this beneficial. The main advantage of hair follicle testing is its extended detection window, often up to 90 days, conducted through an observed collection process, making it almost impossible to tamper with. However, for drug use within the past 5 days, urine testing remains most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a potent method for spotting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures long-term alcohol and drug records by embedding markers within the fibers of the expanding hair strand. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer roughly a 3-month detection span for alcohol and drugs. It's easy to gather, hard to tamper with, and straightforward to send.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg, which is the optimal sample for testing and verification. For EtG, extras, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advised. We recommend using a jeweler's scale to measure the specimen. If scalp hair is absent, an equivalent amount of body hair might be used. When we talk about head hair, we mean only scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning deals with the initial handling of a sample into a lab's system. It encompasses confirming the sample's seal and proper shipping, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data input not managed by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial quick check for drug abuse. Although Screening is affordable for eliminating drug use in most samples, a positive result must be verified for legality. Samples that show presumptive positives in Screening must undergo a follow-up confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the primary specimen and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, drug extraction from hair occurs at a significantly lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is conducted through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that test presumptive positive undergo a cleaning process before confirmation as required. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair tests can trace drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with a shorter detection range.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Manipulating a hair drug test is very challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Gives historical data: It shows a pattern of drug use over a duration, not just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot catch recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair roughly 5-7 days after use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are usually pricier than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Often termed "hair follicle tests", the test examines the hair strand rather than the scalp-embedded follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing is superior to traditional urine testing in Shawville, TX, offering more reliable and precise results. Hair tests can reveal drug use over a more extended period, providing a comprehensive insight into an individual's substance habits. Compared to urine tests, hair analysis is less susceptible to manipulation, thereby increasing its effectiveness in maintaining safety standards in various settings.

Extended Detection Window

Shawville, TX benefits from the extended detection window offered by hair follicle drug testing, able to uncover substance use up to 90 days prior. This extensive timeframe gives employers a thorough snapshot of an employee's or applicant's substance history, allowing for better-informed decisions regarding hiring or current employee evaluations.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Shawville, TX provides a tamper-resistant solution for drug screening. Unlike other methods, it's much harder to alter or adulterate the sample. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
