In Splendora, Texas, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. Specializing in hair and alcohol tests, we have centers nationwide to conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body suffices. Hair analysis can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized further.

Hair follicle drug testing has gained popularity recently. It's preferred by employers, courts, and substance abuse experts over urine tests due to its longer detection window—up to 90 days. This test suits zero-tolerance policies, probation requirements, and minimizes cheating via observed collection. For recent drug use (within 5 days), urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an effective method for detecting the use of drugs and alcohol. Hair captures indicators of alcohol and other drugs within the strands as they grow, offering a long-term record. When collected near the scalp, hair can show drug and alcohol use for up to about 3 months. Hair is straightforward to collect, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of roughly 200 hair strands similar in size to a #2 pencil, and taken closest to the scalp, will yield 100mg for ideal testing. For EtG add-ons or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We advise using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. For head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair, while body hair covers all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test involves four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the first step, where a sample is entered into the lab's system. Here, it's confirmed that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number) is assigned, and any additional information not available through an electronic chain of custody system is added.

Screening provides a preliminary assessment for drug abuse. Although it is a cost-effective way to eliminate drug use in most samples, any positive screen must be confirmed for it to be valid in legal contexts. Samples that test presumptively positive in Screening require further Confirmation.

For samples showing a presumptive positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is used from the initial sample for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at concentrations lower than those used in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening notably challenging.

Confirmation of any positive screening involves techniques such as GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that look presumptively positive are cleansed before confirmation when needed. The laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is validated by both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation under ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use up to 90 days in the past, compared to shorter detection windows in urine tests.
  • Hard to deceive: Tampering with a hair drug test is very challenging, enhancing the accuracy of outcomes.
  • Indicates historical usage: It provides insights into a pattern of drug use over time rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: Drugs require about 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Output variability: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth differences can impact the levels of drug metabolites within hair.

Note: Despite often being labeled as "hair follicle tests", the examination targets the hair strand itself, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over urine tests in Splendora, TX? Hair testing offers a superior detection accuracy, pivotal for comprehensive drug screening. Unlike traditional methods, it encapsulates a broader timeframe of substance usage, ensuring a thorough analysis and leaving no room for recent evasion tactics.

Hair testing outperforms urine tests with its reliability and higher accuracy levels. In workplace or legal settings, where precise records are crucial, hair follicle testing stands out by providing more detailed insights into an individual's past substance use habits, enhancing overall assessment reliability.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing offers significant advantages in Splendora, TX. Unlike urine tests, hair samples can unveil a drug use history up to 90 days. This extensive period presents employers with a comprehensive insight into an applicant or employee's potential substance use patterns.

This longer detection window allows companies in Splendora to maintain a high standard of workplace integrity. By understanding an individual's history over an extended timeframe, employers can make more informed hiring and retention decisions that align with their corporate policies on substance use.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Splendora, TX, is a tamper-resistant method, significantly reducing the risk of sample adulteration. Since the process involves collecting hair samples, it eliminates common cheating methods found in urine tests, thereby ensuring that the results are genuine and credible.

With hair follicle tests, the potential for manipulation is drastically minimized. The structure of the test itself guards against any attempts at altering outcomes, offering unrivaled reliability and upholding the integrity of drug testing procedures in various professional and legal contexts.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
