Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Tom Bean, Texas. For those requiring hair or alcohol testing, Accredited Drug Testing is a specialist in hair analysis and offers testing centers in cities Nationwide to fulfill these needs. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is required. Tests may detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for specific hair analysis.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have become a popular choice for drug screening. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals are opting for hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. These tests are ideal for employers with strict no-drug policies, legal systems, and probation conditions. A significant advantage of hair follicle testing is its extensive detection period, extending up to 90 days, making it nearly foolproof. However, for drug use detection within the past 5 days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly viewed as a significant method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record of alcohol and drug usage by embedding biomarkers in the fibers of the developing hair shaft. When sourced close to the scalp, hair is capable of offering an approximate 3-month detection range for alcohol and other substances. Hair sampling is straightforward, relatively resistant to alteration, and easily transportable.

A 1.5-inch segment of around 200 hair strands (equivalent to a #2 pencil's thickness) near the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the preferred amount for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional procedures, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg sample size is suggested. It is advisable to measure the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair cannot be provided, a comparable quantity of body hair can be taken. When mentioning head hair, we are specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory analysis of a drug test result consists of four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s database. This step ensures the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, generates a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any supplementary data entry not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient mechanism to exclude drug use in most cases, a positive screen must undergo confirmation to be valid in legal settings. Samples identified as presumptively positive in Screening necessitate additional confirmation.

If Screening reveals a presumptive positive, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, substances are isolated from hair at substantially lower concentrations compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which explains why hair drug testing is notably challenging to perform.

Confirmation of positive screening outcomes is accomplished via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are cleaned before confirmation as required. The comprehensive lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for approximately 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a reduced detection span.
  • Challenging to evade: Cheating a hair drug test is difficult, ensuring more precise results.
  • Offers historical insight: It can reveal a timeline of drug use over an extended duration, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: It takes about 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly compared to other drug screening methods.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Even though often called "hair follicle tests", the analysis pertains to the hair shaft and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Testing is Superior in Tom Bean, TX
Hair follicle testing in Tom Bean, TX offers benefits that traditional urine tests cannot match. Their main advantage lies in their comprehensive detection period, which provides a clearer picture of an individual's substance intake. Unlike urine tests, hair tests capture long-term patterns, making it more difficult to obscure substance use through abstinence.

Employers and legal entities increasingly prefer hair follicle tests due to their advanced detection precision. While urine tests only reveal recent usage, hair tests document a broader consumption history. For stringent drug policies, this leads to increased trust in testing results, ensuring adherence to regulations.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection in Tom Bean, TX
Hair follicle testing in Tom Bean, TX is favored for its ability to detect drug use over an extended timeframe, typically up to 90 days. This window provides a detailed view of a person's substance usage history, crucial for decision-makers in hiring processes or legal requirements. A broad detection scope helps in establishing consistent patterns of drug use.

With hair testing's longer detection period, employers can make informed evaluations, offering them comprehensive reports on potential or current employees. This is an effective way to ensure workplace safety and uphold drug-free policies consistently without the immediate time constraints of urine testing.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
