Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug evaluations in Volente, Texas. For those requiring tests for drugs or alcohol, we excel in hair analysis, and our facilities span all cities across the nation, capable of conducting these examinations. Generally, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches from the crown or body is needed. Hair assessments can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or accommodate other custom hair testing needs.

In recent times, drug testing methods increasingly include hair follicle tests. A range of employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals now prefer hair testing over traditional urine samples. Companies with strict anti-drug policies, courts, and probation individuals often rely on them. The principal advantage is a protracted detection period reaching 90 days, collected under observation, making it highly secure against tampering. Yet, for identifying the last 5 days of drug activity, urinalysis remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a significant method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record by encasing biomarkers within the hair strand as it grows. With samples taken near the scalp, hair can offer an approximately 3-month detection timeframe for alcohol and other substances. Collection of hair is straightforward, relatively difficult to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (roughly the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the preferred amount for analysis and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, or those exceeding 10 panels, it is suggested to use 150mg of the sample. We recommend measuring the sample on a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair can't be obtained, a comparable quantity of body hair can be used. In reference to head hair, we mean scalp hair solely. Body hair includes all other types (face, armpits, etc.).

Process Overview

The key steps in the laboratory analysis of drug test results include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the introductory step of registering a sample within a laboratory’s process. This involves ensuring that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any missing data entry that is not covered by an electronic chain of custody mechanism.

Screening is a preliminary rapid scan for drugs of abuse. Although Screening offers a budget-friendly method to dismiss substance use in most samples, a positive result needs confirmation to be legally valid. Samples that are suspected to be positive during Screening must undergo a further confirmation step.

If a sample shows a presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is sourced from the original specimen and set aside for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a much lower concentration than other methods (such as urine or saliva), making hair drug testing the most challenging method to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive Screening outcome is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Before confirmation, all presumptive positive samples are cleansed as necessary. The complete procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have a briefer detection period.
  • Challenging to falsify: Hair drug tests are difficult to manipulate, leading to more reliable results.
  • Tracks past usage: They provide an account of drug use over time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests usually cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Though commonly termed as "hair follicle tests," the analysis examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Volente, TX, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine testing in several significant ways. Advanced detection capabilities mean identifying recent substance use up to 90 days, while urine tests are limited to shorter periods. Hair tests offer a thorough analysis of any drug history, proving more effective in identifying past consumption.

The reliability factor of hair testing is noteworthy. Unlike urine samples, hair follicles are less prone to manipulation, ensuring diagnostic accuracy and genuine results. Employers benefit from an error-free, trustworthy testing method, enhancing the decision-making process in maintaining a drug-free workplace environment.

Extended Detection Window

With an extended detection window, hair follicle testing in Volente, TX, enables up to 90 days of drug use history to be scrutinized. This prolonged observation period allows employers a comprehensive view of an individual's substance use, beyond the limitations of other methods. It provides a broader perspective on an applicant’s or employee's behavior.

An extended detection timeline gives hair tests a significant advantage over other methods. By offering an extended lookback period, employers attain a clearer understanding of an individual's substance use trends. This insight helps them enforce stricter drug-free policies and maintain a safer working environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

One of the standout features of hair follicle testing in Volente, TX, is its strong resistance to tampering. The integrity of hair samples means that adulteration is incredibly difficult, ensuring results are trustworthy and unaltered. This reliability allows employers to wholeheartedly trust the outcomes, bolstering workplace safety initiatives.

In an era where sample manipulation is a concern, hair follicle testing offers a solution. The tamper-resistant nature of these tests ensures results are credible, reducing doubt and providing companies with peace of mind regarding their testing processes. This level of security is crucial for implementing a dependable drug-free workplace policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
