Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Waples, Texas. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair examinations, and we operate testing centers in cities nationwide to conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown of the head or body can be utilized. Hair tests are capable of analyzing drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other customized testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has increasingly become a preferred method. Various employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals now demand hair testing over standard urine testing. Employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and those on probation rely on hair follicle drug tests. The main advantage is a significantly extended drug detection window, generally up to 90 days, ensured by an observed collection process and being challenging to falsify. However, for detecting drug use within the past five days, urine tests remain the most accurate method.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now regarded as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. It offers a prolonged history by capturing biomarkers in the fibers of the hair as it grows. If taken close to the scalp, hair can present up to roughly a three-month window for detecting alcohol and drug usage. It's straightforward to gather, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

An optimal test sample consists of a 1.5-inch portion of around 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil in diameter) next to the scalp, yielding 100mg of hair. For tests involving EtG, additional parameters, or those exceeding 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing. If scalp hair isn't obtainable, a similar amount from body hair can be used. When discussing head hair, it pertains only to scalp hair, whereas body hair represents all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four critical steps in processing a laboratory drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary step of incorporating a sample into a laboratory's database. It requires confirming that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and inputting any additional information not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although it offers a cost-effective method to eliminate drug use for the majority of samples, a positive screen must be verified to be considered valid for court purposes. Samples indicating a presumptive positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

If Screening indicates a presumptive positive result, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. During this process, drugs are isolated from hair at concentrations much lower than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screens among the most challenging methodologies.

Positive screening results are validated through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples deemed presumptive positive are cleaned before confirmation, if necessary. The entire lab protocol from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection period: Hair drug screenings can identify drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have a shorter detection scope.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Hair drug tests are notably hard to manipulate, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Delivers historical insights: It can outline drug usage trends over time, not just current use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: It generally takes 5-7 days for drugs to become visible in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug analyses tend to be pricier compared to other testing methods.
  • Outcome variability: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth differences might influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Referred to as "hair follicle tests" at times, the actual testing scrutinizes the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing to traditional urine testing in Waples, TX, hair tests display a higher detection accuracy and reliability. While standard urine tests detect recent drug use, hair tests cover a broader detection window, making them a superior option for an extensive analysis of substance use history.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Waples, TX reveals drug use over an extended period, up to 90 days. This wide detection window furnishes employers with a thorough assessment of a candidate or employee's history, offering a deeper insight into their substance use patterns than shorter-term tests.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

One key advantage of hair follicle testing in Waples, TX is its resilience against tampering. The method significantly lessens the possibility of sample adulteration, delivering results that are trustworthy and incontestable, which is crucial for maintaining integrity in drug testing protocols.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
