Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Farmington, Utah. When you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing provides specialized testing and maintains testing centers across all cities in the Nation that conduct hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is necessary. Hair tests can be evaluated for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other personalized hair testing options.

Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle drug tests. An increasing number of employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals mandate hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle drug tests are favored by employers enforcing zero-tolerance policies, courts, and individuals under probation. The key advantage of a hair follicle drug test is its extended detection period for drug use—up to 90 days—collected through an observed procedure, rendering it nearly impossible to falsify. Nonetheless, urine tests remain the most precise for detecting drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now regarded as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair traps biomarkers within its strands, offering a long-term overview of substance use. When sourced near the scalp, it can reveal up to a 90-day history of alcohol and drug use. Hair collection is non-invasive, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil’s thickness) closest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG additions or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is recommended. We advise weighing the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be used. References to head hair pertain solely to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory progression for processing a drug test outcome comprises four key phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial incorporation of a sample into the laboratory's systems. This step verifies proper sealing and shipping, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fulfills any additional record-keeping not covered by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening is a preliminary rapid evaluation for substances of abuse. Though cost-effective for ruling out most drug use, positive screening results must be validated to hold up in legal contexts. Presumptively positive samples detected during Screening will need subsequent confirmation.

If a specimen tests as presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for the Extraction phase. At this point, drugs are isolated from hair in much lower concentrations compared to other methods like urine or saliva tests, marking hair drug screening as the most challenging methodology.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques are used for the Confirmation of any positive screening outcomes. Presumptively positive samples are washed as necessary before confirmation. From Accessioning through to Confirmation, the entire process undergoes evaluation under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standards and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection period: Hair tests can trace drug usage up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a shorter detection span.
  • High resistance to tampering: Cheating a hair drug test presents considerable difficulty, rendering results more precise.
  • Data on usage history: It shows a pattern of drug use over time, rather than just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to indicate recent consumption: Detectability of drugs in hair requires approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than other evaluation methods.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and personal hair growth rates can influence metabolite concentrations.

Note: Although termed "hair follicle tests," the analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing outperform urine testing in Farmington, UT? The answer lies in superior detection accuracy and reliability. Hair testing offers a broader detection window, capturing drug use over several months, which traditional urine tests may miss.

Employers favor hair tests for their zero-tolerance drug policies due to the comprehensive insights they provide. The reliability and tamper-resistant nature of hair tests make them a preferred choice over urine tests.

Extended Detection Window

The primary advantage of hair follicle drug testing is its extended detection window in Farmington, UT. While urine tests are limited in duration, hair testing can detect substances used as far back as 90 days. This extensive timeframe grants employers a thorough overview of an individual's substance history.

Employers appreciate the in-depth perspective hair tests provide, allowing them to make informed decisions based on long-term habits, rather than short-term activities.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing is a tamper-resistant testing method in Farmington, UT, significantly minimizing the risk of sample adulteration. Through a meticulous collection process, it ensures that the results remain reliable and unquestionable.

This built-in resilience against tampering positions hair tests as a trustworthy choice for accurate results, providing peace of mind to employers and legal entities.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
