Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Park City, Utah. For those needing a hair drug or alcohol analysis, our expertise lies in hair testing, with facilities across every city Nationwide to administer the test. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your scalp or body can be used. Our tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer bespoke hair testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have increasingly become a favored method for conducting drug tests. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts now prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. These tests are employed by employers practicing zero-tolerance towards drugs, courts, and individuals under probation. A key advantage of hair follicle drug tests is their ability to detect drug use over an extended duration, usually up to 90 days, collected under supervision, and are nearly tamper-proof. However, for detecting drug use within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Recognized as a potent method, hair evaluation serves in identifying substance and alcohol consumption. Hair retains long-term substance and alcohol history by encasing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. Secured near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection scope of approximately 3 months for alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, relatively tough to tamper with, and easy for transportation.

A sample of 1.5 inches comprising around 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's diameter) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is preferred for examinations and confirmations. For EtG, supplementary tests, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, a collecting of 150mg is suggested. Using a jeweler's scale for weighing is advised. If scalp hair is absent, an equal amount of body hair can be substituted. Reference to head hair specifically indicates scalp hair. Body hair encompasses every other hair form (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four pivotal stages in a drug test lab result process encompass Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the commencement of processing a sample within a lab. This entails authentication of proper sealing and shipping, assignment of a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), alongside completing any additional data entry overlooked by an electronic chain of custody arrangement.

Screening aims at a preliminary swift inspection for substance misuse. While Screening is cost-efficient for negating drug use across most samples, a genuine screen must be validated for judicial acceptance. Samples presumed positive in Screening require ensuing confirmation.

Given a presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. Within this process, substances are extracted from hair at notably lower concentrations than in other methods (urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug screening a most challenging technique to execute.

Verification of any affirmative screening outcome occurs through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is cross-examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair screenings can trace drug consumption over 90 days, unlike urine tests with a narrower detection period.
  • Cheating difficulty: The challenge in manipulating hair drug tests ensures more precise results.
  • Chronological data provision: Offers drug usage patterns over time, not confined to recent usage.

Limitations:

  • No recent consumption detection: It requires about 5-7 days for substances to manifest in hair.
  • Expense: Typically, hair drug tests involve higher costs than alternative methods.
  • Result discrepancies: Elements like hair pigmentation and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Remark: Though often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the analysis is of the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Park City is evident in its superior detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair follicle testing provides a longer detection window and reduces the chances of tampering, effectively capturing a wider timeframe of substance use while ensuring dependable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
