If scalp hair is not available, a comparable quantity of body hair may be taken. The term head hair refers specifically to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair categories (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result comprises four major steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s system.
