Process Overview
The laboratory processing of a drug test consists of four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Any samples that are tentatively positive during Screening demand an additional confirmation.
For samples tentatively positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are removed from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), explaining why hair drug testing is the most challenging method to conduct.
Confirmation of any positive screen result is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as required. The comprehensive laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.
