Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Arlington Heights, Washington. Whether it's a hair drug or alcohol test you need, we're the experts in hair analysis, offering testing centers in every city nationwide ready to perform tests. Typically, the requirement is 1.5 to 2 inches of scalp or body hair. Our tests analyze substances like drugs, alcohol/ETG, and can include tailored hair testing solutions.

Recently, drug testing methodologies have increasingly favored hair follicle tests. Many organizations, judicial systems, and addiction specialists now choose hair analysis over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, judicial entities, and probationary systems depend on hair tests. Notably, hair tests offer a longer detection window—up to 90 days—and involve supervised sample collection, making them nearly tamper-proof. For detecting recent drug use (within five days), urine testing remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an influential resource for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a long-term record of alcohol and other drugs by holding biomarkers within the threads of the growing hair strand. When collected near the scalp, hair can deliver up to a roughly 3-month detection period for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is easy to gather, relatively hard to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the preferred quantity for screening and verification. For EtG, supplements, and/or assessments above 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is suggested. We advise measuring the specimen with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, a matching quantity of body hair can be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair includes all other hair categories (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory handling of a drug test outcome is composed of four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary processing of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This process verifies that the sample was properly sealed and sent, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry not supplied by an electronic chain of custody mechanism.

Screening executes a rapid initial search for drugs of abuse. While Screening serves as a cost-efficient method to exclude drug usage for the majority of samples, a positive screening result must be verified to be valid in legal proceedings. Any samples showing a presumptive positive in Screening require a secondary confirmation.

If a sample exhibits a presumptive positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are drawn from hair at much lower concentrations than in other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which explains why hair drug screening is the most challenging method to conduct.

Verification of any positive screening result is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation as necessary. The full laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes scrutiny under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standard and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 criteria.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug use up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests, which have a shorter detection period.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly difficult, making the results more credible.
  • Delivers historical insight: It reveals a history of drug use spanning time, not just recent occurrences.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs become noticeable in hair around 5-7 days after use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and unique hair growth rates can influence the drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: While frequently labeled as "hair follicle tests", the assessment actually evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing outshines traditional urine tests in Arlington Heights, WA due to its superior detection rates. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis can capture a substance use history stretching up to 90 days. This broader detection window gives employers and organizations a more comprehensive substance profile.

Comparatively, hair tests are harder to deceive, enhancing reliability in results. While urine tests may provide quick results for recent use, hair tests offer a more dependable method for understanding longer-term substance patterns in the body.

Extended Detection Window

The hallmark of hair follicle testing in Arlington Heights, WA, is its extended detection period. Unlike other methods, this drug screening can capture the use of substances for up to 90 days prior. Consequently, this gives a more thorough overview of an individual’s substance habits.

Employers find this particularly beneficial when evaluating potential hires, as the test uncovers longer-term patterns in substance usage. This comprehensive view supports informed decision-making, crucial for many businesses.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Arlington Heights, WA, hair follicle testing stands as a tamper-resistant solution for drug screening. Objective by nature, the test reduces risks tied to sample manipulation, thereby guaranteeing authentic results.

This method's structural design makes it hard for individuals to adulterate samples, raising its credibility over other options. The test's inherent integrity is reassuring for those seeking dependable substance testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
