Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug examinations in Burlington, Washington. If a hair-based drug or alcohol exam is required, we specialize in these services and have facilities in cities nationwide to facilitate testing. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body can be utilized. Hair analyses can reveal drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific needs.

Recently, the shift toward drug assessments has shown an increase in hair follicle testing, outpacing typical urine analysis. Employers, legal entities, and substance abuse experts increasingly favor hair drug checks over urine tests. Used by those with strict no-drug policies, courts, and probationers, these tests have a detection window of up to 90 days, with monitored collection—making evasion nearly impossible. Yet, for detecting drugs used in the past five days, urine tests remain unsurpassed.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective instrument for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. By capturing biomarkers in the fibers of the developing hair shaft, hair offers an extended historical record of alcohol and drug use. When gathered near the scalp, hair can present a detection span of around three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for assessment and verification. For EtG, supplementary tests, or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is suggested. It is advisable to weigh the hair on jeweler’s scales. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be taken. By head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair pertains to all other hair categories (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procedure for drug test analysis encompasses four vital phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial phase of integrating a sample into the laboratory's system. This encompasses checking that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and conducting any supplementary data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of an initial swift assessment for substances of abuse. Although cost-efficient to rule out drug use for most samples, a positive screening must be validated to be legally permissible. Any samples that are tentatively positive during Screening necessitate an additional confirmation.

When a sample tests tentatively positive during Screening, more hair is retrieved from the original sample for Extraction. At this stage, the extraction of drugs from hair occurs at a significantly lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug screening the most complex methodology to conduct.

Any positive screening result undergoes Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumed positive undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, while urine tests have a shorter period.
  • Challenging to deceive: It is exceedingly challenging to falsify a hair drug test, thereby enhancing accuracy.
  • Offers chronological usage data: It can reveal a drug usage trend over time, beyond just recent consumption.

Drawbacks:

  • Inability to detect recent consumption: Detectability in hair takes approximately 5-7 days.
  • Costly: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than other testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal growth patterns can influence metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over traditional urine tests in Burlington, WA? The choice is clear: unparalleled detection accuracy and reliability. Hair tests reveal substance use over extended periods, making them a superior choice for employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals who require the most comprehensive evaluation. This method ensures a longer detection window, eliminating the limitations tied to urine testing.

Hair follicle tests are forging a new standard, offering Burlington residents a past three-month insight into an individual's substance history. Unlike urine tests, which may only capture recent substance use, hair tests present an extended detection timeframe. This results in a broader look at a person's drug habits, vital for employment, legal assessments, and substance abuse programs.

Extended Detection Window

Burlington, WA benefits from hair follicle testing's extended detection capabilities. Unlike traditional tests, hair analyses track drug use over 90 days, offering a more informed view of an individual's history. This technique provides employers with critical data regarding an applicant or employee's previous substance use, helping make informed employment decisions.

With hair follicle testing in Burlington, expect an extensive analysis of substance use history. A notable advantage is its capacity to detect drug use for up to three months, surpassing common testing methods. Employers gain a crucial tool for a detailed evaluation, ensuring that decisions are backed by comprehensive data on an individual's drug history.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Burlington, WA, hair follicle testing is renowned for its tamper-resistant properties. Unlike other methods, it substantially reduces the risk of adulteration, ensuring credible and reliable evaluations. Once collected, a hair sample cannot be easily altered, providing assurance of genuine results. The method's integrity is a cornerstone for employers and legal bodies alike.

The reliability of hair testing in Burlington stands firm against tampering attempts. This method's design naturally hinders sample manipulation, unlike other testing forms prone to contamination or alteration. Employers and legal officials opt for hair tests due to their steadfast accuracy and the peace of mind offered by their tamper-proof nature.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
