Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Chain Lake, Washington. If you require drug or alcohol testing through hair analysis, our expertise is at your service across cities Nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body suffices. Our hair tests analyze substances like drugs and alcohol, alongside other specialized options.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has gained favor over traditional methods. Employers, judicial systems, and addiction specialists often prefer this over urine tests. It's mandatory for zero-tolerance workplaces, court orders, and individuals on probation. The test's advantage lies in detecting substances for up to 90 days via direct observation, making cheating nearly impossible. For recent use within five days, urine tests remain superior.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has gained recognition as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a record of alcohol and substances over time by encapsulating biomarkers within the hair's fibers. When acquired near the scalp, hair can deliver up to around a 3-month detection span for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to collect, moderately challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

An ideal hair sample for screening and confirmation consists of a 1.5-inch sample of about 200 hair strands (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp, yielding 100mg of hair. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advisable. We advise measuring the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent amount of body hair may be taken. When addressing head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The core stages in the lab processing of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial phase of integrating a sample into a lab's framework. This step verifies if the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any further data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary quick examination for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a budget-friendly way to dismiss drug use in most samples, a positive screen mandates confirmation to be permissible in legal proceedings. Any samples that exhibit a presumptive positive in Screening necessitate a secondary confirmation.

If a sample shows a presumptive positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. Here, drugs are withdrawn from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), contributing to hair drug screening being the most arduous methodology to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is done via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as required. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adherence to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests, which have a briefer detection frame.
  • Hard to deceive: It is notably challenging to falsify a hair drug test, leading to more precise results.
  • Offers historical insight: It can show a pattern of drug use over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent use: It requires approximately 5-7 days for drugs to be visible in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the test itself examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Chain Lake, WA, hair follicle testing is proving to be superior to traditional urine tests. The primary benefits of hair testing include a much longer detection window and enhanced detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, which may only reveal drug use within a short time frame, hair tests can provide a comprehensive image of an individual's substance use history.

Furthermore, the observed collection process for hair tests makes it far more challenging to tamper with the sample compared to urine testing. This increased level of security ensures that results remain accurate and truthful, offering peace of mind to those relying on the data.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Chain Lake, WA offers a significant advantage with its extended detection window. It can unveil drug use over a period of up to 90 days, presenting employers with a detailed overview of an applicant or employee's substance use history. This long-term insight is crucial for making informed hiring and retention decisions.

With standard methods like urine tests, the detection period is shorter, often leading to missed evidence of past drug use. The extended timeline of hair testing grants a more reliable assessment, aiding employers in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

For organizations in Chain Lake, WA, the tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing is a significant advantage. This method drastically minimizes the risk of sample adulteration, ensuring results are reliable and unquestionable. The observed collection process makes it incredibly difficult for individuals to alter or substitute their samples.

This level of security is critical in contexts where integrity and accuracy of results are of utmost importance, such as legal cases or employment screenings. By choosing hair testing, stakeholders can trust that the results genuinely reflect the individual's substance use history.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
