Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug assessments in Lincoln, Washington. For individuals in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise in hair testing is unparalleled, with centers available in cities across the Nation. Typically, a sample of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is sufficient. Our hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer various tailored testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have become a favored method for conducting drug screenings. These tests are increasingly mandated by employers, legal authorities, and Substance Abuse experts over conventional urine tests. Employers enforcing stringent no-drug policies, courts, and probationary programs rely on hair testing. The key advantage is a significantly extended detection timeframe of up to 90 days, collected under strict observation, making it nearly cheat-proof. However, for detecting recent usage within five days, urine tests remain the most precise option.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. This is because hair captures biomarkers within the fibers as it grows, offering an extended history of substance use. When gathered near the scalp, hair samples can reveal drug and alcohol use over roughly three months. The collection process is straightforward, tampering is challenging, and shipping is convenient.

A 1.5-inch portion consisting of around 200 hair strands, comparable in thickness to a #2 pencil, will provide 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and tests beyond 10 panels, it's advised to use 150mg of the sample. We suggest measuring the sample's weight using a jeweler’s scale. In the event scalp hair is unreachable, a similar quantity of body hair may be usable. When discussing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair forms (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug testing procedure in a laboratory is primarily comprised of four stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the primary incorporation of a sample into the laboratory framework. This step ensures that the sample was appropriately sealed and dispatched, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and handles any extra data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody method.

Screening is an initial assessment for signs of drug usage. Though cost-effective for excluding drug use in most samples, a positive screen necessitates verification to be valid in a legal setting. Any presumptive positives from the Screening stage must undergo further confirmation.

If the Screening process yields a presumptive positive, more strands are taken from the original sample for Extraction. In this phase, substances are isolated from hair at much lower levels than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), presenting hair drug tests as the most complex to perform.

Positive results from Screening undergo Confirmation through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if required. The complete laboratory cycle from Accessioning to Confirmation receives scrutiny under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair guidelines and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair tests can trace drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which cover a shorter period.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Tampering with a hair drug test is notably tough, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Provides historical data: It illustrates a drug use trend over time, beyond recent activities.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs typically need 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests typically incur higher expenses compared to other testing techniques.
  • Variations in results: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration levels in hair.

Note: Despite being frequently called "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand rather than the follicle located under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing drug screening methods in Lincoln, WA, hair follicle testing demonstrates clear advantages over traditional urine tests. One significant benefit is its ability to detect a wider spectrum of substance use with higher accuracy.
Employers value hair tests as they greatly extend the observation window, providing comprehensive insights into an individual’s substance history, unlike standard urine tests which typically show only recent use.

Hair testing's superior reliability comes from its resistance to common evasion techniques that might plague urine tests. This ensures that test results in Lincoln, WA remain consistent and trustworthy, offering businesses a more defensible position when enforcing drug-free work policies.

Extended Detection Window

In Lincoln, WA, hair follicle testing is unparalleled in its ability to trace substance usage over a prolonged timeframe, approximately up to 90 days. This extended detection window is invaluable for employers who aim to have a full picture of an applicant or employee's substance history. It surpasses conventional drug tests,
allowing for better-informed decision-making processes regarding hiring or retaining personnel.

With such an extensive detection period provided by hair tests, employers are afforded enhanced oversight over workplace sobriety policies. This ensures that their workforce maintains compliance beyond the scope of shorter-span tests like urine testing, which typically detects recent exposure only.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Lincoln, WA present a robust defense against tampering, a common concern with drug testing methods. The nature of hair testing substantially minimizes the risk of sample adulteration, subsequently providing verifiable and trustworthy results.
This integrity makes it a preferred choice for organizations looking to maintain impartial and accurate drug-testing protocols without the woes of falsified samples.

For those aiming to uphold stringent adherence standards, hair tests are remarkably tamper-resistant, offering a reliability that reassures both testers and employers.
Lincoln's businesses can rest easy knowing that results derived from hair testing are a true representation of the subject’s substance use history.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
