Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Snoqualmie Pass, WA. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise is in hair testing, with centers available in every city nationwide to conduct these tests. It's essential that you have hair from 1.5 to 2 inches on your head or body, as we can utilize this in most scenarios. Hair tests offer analysis for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other customized testing options.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become increasingly common for drug screening purposes. A variety of employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals now prefer a hair drug test over the traditional urine test. Employers with strict drug policies, judicial systems, and probation officers utilize hair follicle drug tests. The major advantage of hair follicle testing is its extended detection period, usually up to 90 days, collected through an observed process and nearly impossible to manipulate. In contrast, urine tests remain most accurate for detecting drug use within the preceding 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and drugs by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the hair strand as it grows. When sampled near the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of up to roughly 3 months for alcohol and drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (about the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for testing and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or panels exceeding 10, 150mg of the specimen is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing. If scalp hair isn't available, a similar amount of body hair can be collected. When we reference head hair, it specifically means scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types like facial or axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory's system. This involves ensuring the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not supplied by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening is the preliminary check for illicit substances. Although Screening provides a cost-effective approach to exclude drug use for most samples, a positive screen must be verified to hold up in legal settings. Any sample deemed presumptively positive in Screening necessitates further verification.

Should a sample show presumptive positivity during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. At this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at much lower concentrations than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing the most challenging to execute.

Confirming any positive screening outcome is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positives undergo a cleansing before confirmation as required. The complete laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter effectiveness period.
  • Challenging to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is highly difficult, ensuring more precise results.
  • Delivers historical insight: It can reveal a timeline of drug use over a given duration, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot spot recent use: Approximately 5-7 days are required for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug screenings are generally pricier compared to other testing methodologies.
  • Result variability: Differing factors like hair color and growth rates can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Though often termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the skin.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In the realm of drug testing within Snoqualmie Pass, WA, hair follicle tests provide distinct advantages over traditional urine tests. Accuracy remains a standout feature, with hair tests spotting drug use over extended periods, while urine tests offer more immediate but narrower detection windows. Reliability comes naturally for follicle tests as they capture a greater history of substance use, strengthening their case as a superior testing option.

Comparatively, hair follicle tests significantly outshine urine tests in terms of detection accuracy. Whereas urine tests may only indicate recent drug use, hair tests extend far back in time, offering a more comprehensive view. For entities with drug-free mandates, choosing hair follicle tests ensures a fuller understanding of an individual's substance history, fostering informed decisions and reinforcing organizational policies.

Extended Detection Window

The ability of hair follicle testing to detect drug use over an extended timeframe offers profound advantages for employers in Snoqualmie Pass, WA. This method allows for a review of substance history stretching up to 90 days, presenting a more detailed perspective on an individual's drug use. Extended detection periods are invaluable for those seeking a deeper understanding of past behavior, surpassing the capabilities of more conventional tests.

Employers and organizations benefit from the comprehensive nature of hair follicle drug tests, particularly their ability to reflect longer-term drug use patterns. By visualizing up to three months of an individual’s history, these tests grant better insight into their habits and behaviors, ensuring hiring decisions and compliance measures are backed by extensive information and analysis.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing is renowned in Snoqualmie Pass, WA, for reducing the chances of sample tampering—a prevalent issue with other testing methods. Its robustness ensures reliability, offering trustworthy results free from manipulation. For organizations focused on accuracy, this method significantly mitigates the risk of adulteration, which is a known challenge with other sample types.

The innate tamper-resistance of hair follicle tests ensures that results remain genuine and untouched across the board. This is instrumental for clients who demand unquestionable results from their drug testing initiatives. In a landscape where accuracy and authenticity are paramount, hair follicle tests provide peace of mind with minimal opportunity for interference or deception.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
