Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug testing services in Snoqualmie Valley, Washington. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol test, we are specialists in hair testing, with centers across National cities capable of conducting hair tests. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is typically needed. Hair tests can be customized to detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific options.

Recently, methods for conducting drug tests have increasingly favored hair follicle analysis. Employers, judicial bodies, and substance abuse experts now often opt for hair testing over traditional urine tests. This type of testing is essential for employers with strict anti-drug policies, courts, and probationary individuals. Its key advantage is the extended detection window up to 90 days, collected under supervision, making it extremely difficult to tamper with. However, for drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair examinations have become recognized as an effective method for identifying alcohol and drug consumption. Hair captures a prolonged timeline of drug and alcohol use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the hair strand as it grows. When collected near the scalp, it can reflect a detection period of up to about 90 days for drugs and alcohol. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively challenging to alter, and convenient to send.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of roughly 200 strands of hair close to the scalp, yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for preliminary assessments and confirmations. For tests exceeding 10 panels, add-ons, or EtG, a 150mg sample is advised. We suggest utilizing a jeweler’s scale to measure the sample. In cases where scalp hair cannot be obtained, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be used. References to head hair pertain solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The lab processing of drug test results involves four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial step where a sample is integrated into the lab’s system. This step involves confirming that the sample was properly sealed and dispatched, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any absent data entry not captured by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary examination for drug detection. Though it is economical to eliminate drug use for the majority of samples, a positive result in Screening requires Confirmation to be legally acceptable. Samples that show presumptive positivity during Screening necessitate further Confirmation.

Should a sample seem positive in the Screening, additional hair is taken from the original sample for Extraction. At this point, drugs are extracted from hair at notably lower concentrations compared to methodologies like oral fluid or urine, underscoring the complexity of hair drug testing.

Positive results from Screening undergo Confirmation using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are cleansed prior to Confirmation as necessary. The process from Accessioning through Confirmation is regulated under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair program and follows the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests extend detection to approximately 90 days, offering a longer window than urine tests.
  • Difficult to manipulate: The hair drug test is not easily deceived, yielding more reliable results.
  • Delivers historical insights: It reveals drug usage patterns over time, instead of merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair after roughly 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentrations.

Note: The term "hair follicle tests" is commonly used; however, the analysis is conducted on the hair strand, not the follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Comparing hair follicle testing to traditional urine tests shows why it's often preferred in Snoqualmie Valley, WA. Hair tests offer superior detection accuracy and reliability, revealing drug use long after it occurs. While urine tests are effective for recent substance use, hair tests provide a more comprehensive picture of an individual's drug history, making them ideal for employers and courts with stringent requirements.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Snoqualmie Valley, WA, offers an extended detection window, capturing drug usage up to 90 days prior. This lengthy detection period affords employers a broader understanding of an employee's or job candidate's past substance use. Unlike urine tests, which only indicate recent consumption, hair testing delivers a comprehensive view into an individual's substance history, enhancing informed decision-making.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Snoqualmie Valley, WA, hair follicle tests are celebrated for their tamper-resistant nature. Unlike other methods susceptible to adulteration, hair samples offer sound protection against manipulation, ensuring reliable and unquestionable results. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
