Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in West Wenatchee, Washington. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair testing, with test centers in all cities across the country, including those capable of performing hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the crown or body is necessary. Hair tests can check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become a more common method for drug testing. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals have started favoring hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probation officers often rely on these tests. The major advantage is the extended detection window for drug use, which can reach up to 90 days. The collection is observed and nearly impossible to tamper with. However, for detecting recent drug use within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged record of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of its growing strands. When collected near the scalp, hair offers approximately a 3-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A segment measuring 1.5 inches with roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the diameter of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or evaluations exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen. If scalp hair is absent, a similar quantity of body hair can be sourced. When we mention head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all alternative hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four principal phases in the laboratory processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial input of a sample into a lab’s infrastructure. It involves confirming that the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and executing any supplementary data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary rapid assessment for substances of abuse. While Screening serves as a budget-friendly approach to eliminating drug usage for most samples, a positive screening necessitates confirmation for legal validity. Samples that show presumptive positives in Screening require further validation.

If Screening indicates a presumptive positive, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), explaining why hair drug screening is the most challenging method to execute.

Verification of any positive screening result occurs through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive specimens go through washing prior to confirmation as necessary. The end-to-end laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the accreditation adhering to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can detect drug use up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a shorter detection period.
  • Challenging to manipulate: It is exceedingly difficult to alter a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insights: It provides a timeline of drug usage, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent ingestion: Drugs become noticeable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically incur higher costs than other testing methods.
  • Outcome variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: Despite the common usage of the term "hair follicle tests," the actual test examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing proves superior to urine tests in West Wenatchee, WA, due to its enhanced detection capabilities. While urine tests detect recent drug use, hair tests capture a broader history, ensuring higher reliability and accuracy in screening processes.

Employers, courts, and rehabilitation centers increasingly favor hair testing over urine testing. By offering a wider detection window, it becomes an invaluable tool against drug misuse, difficult to deceive or manipulate.

Extended Detection Window

The hallmark of hair follicle testing in West Wenatchee, WA, is its extended detection period, lasting up to 90 days. This extensive window provides a thorough understanding of an individual's substance use history, invaluable in employment and legal settings.

Employers benefit from hair testing's ability to uncover drug use far beyond the capabilities of traditional tests. It creates a detailed profile, allowing informed decisions based on comprehensive drug history analyses.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
