Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Glen Rogers, West Virginia. Whether you're seeking a hair drug or alcohol examination, our expertise lies in hair testing, with facilities in every city across the nation ready to execute such tests. Generally, a length of 1.5 to 2 inches is required, sourced from either the head or body, allowing for the detection of drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing solutions.

Lately, hair follicle drug tests have become a prevalent method for drug screening. Companies, courts, and substance abuse specialists now often opt for hair testing over traditional urine methods. Employers enforcing strict drug-free policies, court mandates, and those on probation rely on hair follicle analysis. Its key advantage is an extended detection window, spanning up to 90 days, collected under direct supervision, and challenging to falsify. Yet, for identifying recent drug use within five days, urine analysis remains unrivaled.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has gained recognition as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a long-term record of alcohol and drug intake, capturing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When clipped near the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and drugs. The collection process for hair is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and easily transportable.

A sample of 1.5 inches comprising around 200 strands of hair (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) taken nearest to the scalp generates 100mg of hair, the optimum sample size for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or panels exceeding 10, a specimen size of 150mg is suggested. We advise measuring the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be unobtainable, an equivalent amount of body hair may be gathered. References to head hair specifically denote scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test outcome consists of four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial processing of a sample in a laboratory system. This entails confirming that the sample was securely sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any supplementary data entry not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening provides a cost-effective method to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive result necessitates confirmation for court admissibility. All samples that are potentially positive during Screening require additional confirmation.

Should a sample appear positive in the Screening phase, further hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at notably lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with potential positive results undergo a wash prior to confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory procedure, ranging from Accessioning to Confirmation, is conducted under the scrutiny of both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the certification to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a much shorter detection timeframe.
  • Challenging to deceive: It is exceedingly difficult to manipulate the outcome of a hair drug test, yielding more reliable results.
  • Offers historical insights: It can reveal a pattern of drug consumption over a duration, not solely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: There is an approximate 5-7 day period before drugs become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Variability in outcomes: Variables such as hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the level of drug metabolites present in the hair.

Note: While frequently labeled as "hair follicle tests," the examination focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Glen Rogers, WV In comparing hair follicle testing with traditional urine tests, the enhanced detection accuracy of hair testing is clear. This method accurately detects a wider range of substances, offering a more comprehensive overview of an individual's drug use history. Moreover, the reliability of hair tests is significantly higher, reducing false negatives that often plague urine analyses.

Hair testing provides a superior sample integrity, reducing opportunities for deception common in urine tests. This reliability and accuracy make hair testing a more effective choice for employers and testing administrators, providing assurance in the results gathered.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Glen Rogers, WV Hair follicle drug testing stands out with its remarkable detection window, spanning up to 90 days. This extended period allows for a much deeper insight into an individual's substance use history, offering employers in Glen Rogers a thorough understanding of behaviors that urine tests simply cannot provide.

With the ability to showcase months of data, hair testing offers a clear and comprehensive view of usage, serving as a powerful tool for making informed decisions. For businesses, this extended detection range equates to better workplace safety and informed hiring decisions.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
