Accredited Drug Testing offers extensive hair follicle drug testing in Kimberly, West Virginia. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is an expert in hair testing with centers nationwide prepared to conduct a hair test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is required. Tests can examine for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other tailored options.

In recent times, drug testing methods have increasingly relied on hair follicle tests. A growing number of employers, courts, and professionals in Substance Abuse fields favor this method over conventional urine tests. Hair follicle drug testing is preferred by employers with strict no-drug policies, judicial systems, and probationary monitoring. The primary advantage lies in its extended detection window of up to 90 days, maintaining integrity through observed collections, making cheating virtually impossible. Nevertheless, for drug use detection within the recent five days, urine testing remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair strands capture biomarkers within their fibers, providing a lengthy history that reflects alcohol and other drugs use. When hair is cut close to the scalp, it offers nearly a 3-month detection period for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, fairly hard to tamper with, and straightforward to send.

A 1.5-inch segment of around 200 strands (approximating the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, which is the ideal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We recommend using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be collected. When mentioning head hair, it specifically pertains to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

Four core steps are involved in the lab processing of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the sample's initial processing into a lab’s system, involving the verification of proper sealing and shipping, allocation of a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completion of data entry not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary check for drugs of abuse. Although it's an economical method to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive screen requires a second confirmation to be legally acceptable. Any presumptively positive Screening results must undergo secondary confirmation.

For samples that test positive in the Screening stage, further hair is extracted from the original specimen for the Extraction process. Here, drugs are pulled from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methodologies (such as urine or oral fluid), living up to hair drug testing's reputation as the toughest method.

Any positive screening result is confirmed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. Before confirmation, all presumptively positive samples undergo washing as necessary. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is thoroughly examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and holds accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can trace drug use up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a shorter period.
  • Difficult to manipulate: It's quite challenging to cheat a hair drug test, ensuring greater result accuracy.
  • Historical usage data: It can reveal a drug usage pattern over time, not just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Not suitable for recent use detection: Drugs take around 5-7 days to show in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are generally costlier than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Individual differences in hair color and growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: While commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests", the test examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Kimberly, WV, hair follicle testing surpasses urine testing with undeniable advantages. Hair tests provide superior detection accuracy, making them more reliable for identifying drug use over extended periods. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair testing is less invasive and offers a more comprehensive overview, ensuring that the results are both precise and difficult to manipulate.

Extended Detection Window

With hair follicle testing in Kimberly, WV, you have the advantage of an extended detection window. Hair tests can track substance use for up to 90 days, offering employers and authorities a thorough understanding of an individual's drug use history. This extensive window ensures a more comprehensive evaluation, crucial for informed decision-making regarding employment or probation.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle tests makes them a reliable choice in Kimberly, WV. Unlike other testing methods, hair tests minimize the risk of sample adulteration. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
