Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Rowlesburg, West Virginia. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is a specialist in hair testing, and we operate testing centers in all major cities across the nation, capable of conducting hair tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is needed. Hair tests can be tailored for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific testing requirements.

In recent years, hair follicle drug testing has become a staple method. Many employers, legal institutions, and substance abuse experts are opting for hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and individuals on probation commonly use hair follicle tests. The major advantage of such tests is their extended detection period, usually up to 90 days, carried out under observation, which makes cheating nearly impossible. However, for detecting recent drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair examinations have emerged as an influential method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged record of alcohol and drug presence by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When cut close to the scalp, it can offer up to a roughly three-month detection window for alcohol and other substances. Gathering hair is straightforward, relatively difficult to adulterate, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of approximately 200 strands of hair (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp amounts to 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for screening and verification. For EtG addons and/or examinations exceeding ten panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. It is advised to weigh the hair specimen using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not an option, an equivalent amount of body hair can be harvested. When mentioning head hair, we are specifying scalp hair exclusively. Body hair pertains to all other forms of hair (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test outcome encompasses four principal stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the preliminary processing of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This procedure involves ensuring the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid examination for the presence of drug abuse. Although Screening is an economical method to dismiss drug usage in the majority of samples, any positive screening must be substantiated to be valid in legal settings. Samples that test as presumptively positive during Screening need further confirmation.

If a sample indicates a presumptively positive result during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair in significantly lower concentrations than in alternate methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is known as the most challenging methodology to execute.

Verification of any positive screening result is undertaken via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation if required. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adheres to the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection duration: Hair drug assessments can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which encompass a shorter timespan for detection.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Altering the results of a hair drug examination is very challenging, ensuring more precise results.
  • Supplies historical data: It offers a timeline of drug usage over an extended duration rather than recent usage alone.

Limitations:

  • Can't reveal recent use: Drug traces appear in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expensive: Hair drug evaluations are typically costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration within the hair.

Note: Even though sometimes called "hair follicle tests," the examination evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle underneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing is preferred in Rowlesburg, WV, due to its superior detection accuracy compared to urine tests. Hair tests provide a more reliable indication of long-term drug use, capturing a broader spectrum of substance history. This makes it ideal for employers with stringent drug policies, offering an advantage over traditional urine tests in reliability and comprehensiveness.

For those in Rowlesburg, WV, the benefits of hair testing over urine tests are clear. The detection window is significantly longer, offering a thorough historical perspective on drug use. This makes hair tests a valuable tool for employers and legal bodies demanding higher confidence in drug-free policies, ensuring higher standards of compliance and safety.

Extended Detection Window

In Rowlesburg, WV, hair follicle testing provides an expanded detection window, capturing drug use up to 90 days prior. This allows employers an encompassing view of an individual’s substance use history, far surpassing the limited timeframe of urine tests. By detecting past drug use more effectively, hair tests offer a comprehensive approach to maintaining workplace integrity and safety.

With hair testing in Rowlesburg, WV, the extended detection window becomes a crucial asset. Spanning three months, this window offers deeper insights into substance use patterns, supporting employers in their endeavors to promote a drug-free environment. It effectively outlines an employee’s or candidate’s historical drug use, promoting informed decision-making.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Rowlesburg, WV, significantly reduces the risk of sample tampering. Given its resistance to adulteration, hair tests provide trustworthy results that are difficult to compromise. This contributes to the reliability of drug testing, ensuring the integrity of testing outcomes and minimizing legal challenges related to disputed samples.

In the realm of drug testing in Rowlesburg, WV, hair follicle methods are esteemed for their tamper-resistant properties. The testing process assures sample integrity by preventing common adulteration tactics, ensuring trustworthy results that withstand scrutiny. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
