Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair drug and alcohol testing in Tanner, West Virginia. Whether you require a hair drug test or an alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in these services, with nationwide centers including all major cities to conduct your hair test. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is required from the scalp or body. You can choose various test options, such as drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailor-made hair testing.

The preference for hair follicle drug testing has increased in recent years. An increasing number of employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals now opt for hair tests over the conventional urine test. These tests are favored by organizations with zero-tolerance policies, legal bodies, and individual probationers. Hair tests provide a longer drug detection window of up to 90 days and are collected under direct observation, making them hard to tamper with. Still, for drug detection within the past 5 days, urine testing remains more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessment is recognized as an effective method for identifying the consumption of drugs and alcohol. Hair captures long-term indicators of alcohol and substances by embedding markers within the strands of developing hair. When taken close to the scalp, it offers an approximate 3-month observation window for detecting alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch piece consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) next to the scalp yields 100mg, which is the ideal quantity for both initial testing and verification. For tests involving EtG, additional factors, and/or more than 10 panels, 150mg is preferred. It's advised to measure the amount on a jeweler’s scale. If head hair cannot be accessed, an equivalent volume of body hair might be used. "Head hair" specifically indicates scalp hair. "Body hair" covers all other types, including facial and axillary hair.

Procedure Summary

The main four stages in lab analysis of a drug test include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the first step of entering a sample into the lab's framework. This step ensures proper sealing and shipping of samples, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishes any further data input absent from an electronic tracking system.

Screening performs an initial rapid assessment for substances of abuse. Although Screening is cost-effective for dismissing drug use in most samples, those that test positive require further validation for legal acceptance. Any samples flagged as potentially positive in Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.

If a sample tests potentially positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial set and readied for Extraction, where drugs are isolated from hair at concentrations much lower than in alternative methods (such as urine or oral fluids), which is why hair drug assessments are the hardest to conduct.

Confirmation of positive screening outcomes is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any samples identified as potentially positive are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated following both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standards and adherence to ISO / IEC 17025 norms.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug exams can recognize substance use reaching up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests with a briefer detection timeline.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug evaluation is notably difficult, enhancing the reliability of results.
  • Offers historical insights: Can observe patterns of substance use across a timeframe, beyond just recent usage.

Drawbacks:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug evaluations tend to cost more than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence metabolite levels in hair.

Note: While commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Tanner, WV, hair follicle testing surpasses urine testing in several ways. Superior detection accuracy makes hair testing a preferred choice for those requiring reliable substance use analysis. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
