Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Almond, Wisconsin. Whether a hair drug or alcohol analysis is needed, Accredited Drug Testing is proficient in these services with centers available nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body suffices for various drug and alcohol/ETG assessments or specially tailored options.

In recent times, hair follicle testing is increasingly preferred for drug assessments. This method is often favored by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts, replacing standard urine analyses. Hair tests are favored in environments with zero-tolerance policies, legal contexts, and for monitored individuals. Their chief advantage lies in an extended detection window of up to 90 days, offering an uncheatable, observed collection. Yet, for drug use detection within 5 days, urine testing still reigns in accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as a potent means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged timeline of alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within the hair strand fibers. When sampled near the scalp, hair can reveal up to a 3-month timeframe for alcohol and drug use. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section comprising approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's thickness) closest to the scalp produces 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for testing and validation. For EtG, enhancements, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. It's suggested to weigh the sample using a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair can't be obtained, a similar quantity of body hair may be gathered. When discussing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair includes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The key stages in processing a drug test outcome in the lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the sample's initial integration into a lab system. This process checks whether the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, attributes a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any extra data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening conducts a primary rapid assessment for substance abuse. While Screening is a wallet-friendly approach to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive result demands confirmation for courtroom acceptance. Samples presumed positive in Screening require further validation.

Should a sample yield a presumptive positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (like urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug testing the most intricate method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screen result is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is monitored under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can spot drug usage for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a briefer detection period.
  • Hard to deceive: Manipulating a hair drug test is notably difficult, thereby enhancing accuracy.
  • Historical insight: It outlines a pattern of drug use over time, rather than just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of identifying recent usage: It requires around 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other testing methods.
  • Outcome variability: Hair color and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: While often termed as "hair follicle tests", the examination targets the hair strand, not the underlying hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Testing Outperforms Urine Testing in Almond, WI
In the quest for reliable drug testing, hair follicle analysis stands out against traditional urine tests. Hair tests offer unparalleled detection accuracy, revealing long-term substance use and ensuring validity. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
