Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Bellevue Town, Wisconsin. Whether you're looking for a hair drug or alcohol test, we specialize in hair testing and have nationwide testing centers ready to conduct a hair analysis. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair are needed, and body hair can also be used in many instances. Tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, and more custom options.

Over recent years, drug testing methods have increasingly embraced hair follicle drug tests. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals are opting for hair drug tests over standard urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probationary cases utilize these tests. The main advantage of hair follicle testing is its extended detection window of up to 90 days, collected under supervision, making it nearly cheat-proof. For detecting recent drug use, within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Utilizing hair testing is increasingly regarded as a robust method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a comprehensive history of alcohol and drug usage by embedding biomarkers within the threads of the developing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can offer up to roughly a 3-month span for detecting alcohol and drugs. Collection of hair is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and simple to send.

A 1.5-inch length containing about 200 hairs (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for evaluating and confirming. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments beyond 10 panels, it's advisable to collect 150mg of the sample. We suggest utilizing a jeweler’s scale for measuring the sample. In the absence of scalp hair, a comparable quantity of body hair can be gathered. "Head hair" pertains solely to scalp hair. "Body hair" denotes all other hair varieties (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The lab processing of a drug test result consists of four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

In Accessioning, initial processing of a sample into the lab's system occurs. This entails verification of proper sample sealing and shipment, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fulfilling any additional data recording not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides an initial rapid assessment for substance misuse. Screening serves as a cost-efficient measure to exclude drug usage in most samples; however, a positive screen must be validated to be court-admissible. Presumptively positive Screening samples necessitate a secondary confirmation.

For Screening-stage presumptively positive samples, more hair is extracted from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are removed from hair at significantly lower concentrations than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), defining hair drug screening as the most challenging method to conduct.

Confirmation for any positive Screening result is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples undergo necessary washing before confirmation. The complete lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is evaluated under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standard accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can disclose drug usage for up to 90 days, surpassing the shorter detection period of urine tests.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, enhancing the accuracy of outcomes.
  • Provides longitudinal data: It can portray drug use patterns over time, beyond immediate usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-consumption.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to alternative methods.
  • Result variability: Hair color and individual hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Often termed "hair follicle tests", this test examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing to traditional urine tests in Bellevue Town, WI, the benefits are clear. Hair testing offers superior detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis can detect substance use over a longer period, up to 90 days, providing a more comprehensive view. This extensive detection window gives hair testing the edge in identifying long-term drug exposure.

Extended Detection Window

Bellevue Town, WI, benefits from hair follicle testing due to its extended detection window, which covers drug use over approximately 90 days. This longevity in detection allows employers a thorough understanding of an applicant or employee's substance use history. By analyzing the hair, an entire scope of drug exposure can be determined, which urine tests may not provide due to their shorter detection time.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle tests in Bellevue Town, WI, greatly minimizes the likelihood of sample adulteration. This method ensures that the results are both reliable and credible. The collection process makes it difficult to alter the specimens, providing organizations with trustworthy information on substance use. This reliability is essential for maintaining integrity in drug testing programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
