Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Cobb, Wisconsin. Whether it's a test for drugs or alcohol, we excel in hair testing with facilities available across the nation that can conduct hair analysis. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is necessary from the crown or body. Hair testing can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer bespoke options.

Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle tests. More employers, courts, and substance abuse experts prefer hair tests over traditional urine tests. These tests are chosen for individuals under zero-tolerance drug policies or on probation. The main advantage is its longer detection span, up to 90 days, through observed procedures, making it hard to alter results. However, for drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

The analysis of hair samples is recognized as an effective means to identify drug and alcohol usage. Hair offers an extended overview of substance consumption by embedding indicators in the fibers of the hair as it grows. When collected near the scalp, it provides approximately a three-month detection timeframe for alcohol and drugs. The collection of hair is straightforward, relatively tamper-proof, and simple to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil) from near the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the perfect quantity for both screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, or analyses beyond 10 panels, 150mg of hair is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair is not accessible, an equivalent amount of body hair can be collected. When we mention head hair, we refer exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair denotes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary steps in processing a drug test result in the lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary step of entering a sample into a lab’s framework. It includes confirming that the sample was correctly sealed and shipped, creating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing additional data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a swift initial assessment for substances of abuse. While Screening is an economical method to eliminate drug presence in most samples, a positive result must be confirmed to be considered valid in legal scenarios. Any sample that tests presumptively positive in Screening requires an additional confirmation.

For samples indicated as presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is extracted from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. In this phase, substances are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than with other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies.

Confirmation of any positive result from Screening is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if needed. The complete process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed per the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter timeframe.
  • Hard to deceive: Cheating a hair drug test is quite difficult, ensuring more accurate results.
  • Offers historical insights: It shows a pattern of drug consumption over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent activity: Drugs generally become traceable in hair within 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Typically, hair drug tests are costlier than alternate testing methods.
  • Result variations: Differences such as hair color and personal hair growth may influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Despite the term "hair follicle tests," the assessment itself analyzes the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Cobb, WI offers unmatched benefits over urine drug tests. With a superior detection accuracy, hair tests identify drug use over a longer period, giving them an edge in reliability. Their precision and nearly impossible-to-tamper nature make them a preferred choice for many.

The robustness of hair testing minimizes false negatives, making it a more dependable option compared to urine tests, which have a shorter detection window.

Extended Detection Window

Employers in Cobb, WI, benefit from hair follicle testing's extended detection window, which spans up to 90 days. Such a comprehensive period provides a detailed overview of an applicant or employee's substance use, aiding informed decisions.

This longer detection timeline means employers can assess habitual behavior over mere short-term use, ensuring a safer, drug-free workplace environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Cobb, WI, are a tamper-resistant approach to drug testing. The nature of hair samples reduces the likelihood of adulteration, presenting results that are trustworthy and objective.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
