Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Dewey, Wisconsin. For those in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair testing, with locations in cities across the nation equipped to conduct such tests. Generally, having 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the scalp or body is needed. Hair tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, and support various customized testing requirements.

Recently, hair follicle testing has gained traction in drug testing methods. More employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle drug tests are favored by employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probation officers due to their extended detection capability, observing drug usage for up to 90 days, providing results through supervised processes, and maintaining high resistance to tampering. Nonetheless, urine tests remain accurate for detecting recent drug use within a 5-day period.

What it is, How it works

Utilizing hair testing is recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair strands capture biomarkers within their fibers, offering a comprehensive record of long-term alcohol and drug usage. When collected near the scalp, hair has the capability of revealing alcohol and drug history spanning up to roughly three months. The collection process for hair is straightforward, tampering is relatively difficult, and shipping is hassle-free.

A 1.5-inch segment, consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (equal to the circumference of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp, yields 100mg of hair – the perfect quantity for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or those exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. It's recommended that the sample be weighed using a jeweler’s scale. In instances where scalp hair is unavailable, an equivalent amount of body hair can be utilized. When addressing head hair, it pertains solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair categories (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory process for determining drug test results encompasses four key phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample is initially handled in the laboratory's system. This involves ensuring the sample is correctly sealed and shipped, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and inputting any additional information not included in the electronic chain of custody system.

Screening refers to the initial, swift examination for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient method for eliminating drug usage in most samples, a positive screening outcome requires confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples showing presumptive positivity in Screening demand further confirmation.

If a sample is deemed presumptively positive in the Screening stage, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction process. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (like urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples marked as presumptively positive are cleansed before confirmation when necessary. The complete lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair certification and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests track drug usage for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests with a shorter detection span.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is extremely tough, enhancing result precision.
  • Historical insight: It uncovers a pattern of drug usage over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of revealing recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair around 5-7 days post-use.
  • Higher price: Hair drug testing typically incurs higher costs compared to alternative methods.
  • Potential result disparities: Variations like hair color and individual hair growth rates may influence drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Despite being termed "hair follicle tests", the examination targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Dewey, WI Compared to traditional urine tests, hair follicle testing is favored due to its superior detection capacity and reliability. Hair tests can detect drug usage up to 90 days, offering a more extended observation window, unlike urine tests which limit on detection of recent use. This comprehensive detection frame gives employers more reliable insights into employee drug use patterns.

For those determined to avoid drug test failures, hair follicle testing offers harder-to-beat reliability. This rigorous detection method captures substance use more thoroughly over time and is less prone to circumvention, making it a logical choice for gateways requiring strict drug-free policies, such as Dewey's workplaces and judicial contexts.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Dewey, WI Hair follicle testing offers a significant advantage with its extended detection window, revealing drug use for up to 90 days. This provides a thorough view of an applicant or employee's substance history, including drug usage patterns, allowing employers ample information to assess potential risks associated with workplace drug use.

Employers in Dewey can leverage long-term detection to enhance their decision-making processes. This approach not only highlights potential substance issues with applicants but also supports maintaining a productive and safe work environment by revealing extended substance use that might not be detected in other testing methods.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method in Dewey, WI Hair follicle tests significantly reduce the risk of sample adulteration, providing reliable results that are almost impossible to tamper with. These tests ensure that employers receive accurate information free from interference, safeguarding against any deception and maintaining integrity in drug testing processes.

Hair testing leverages a high resistance to tampering. Its design makes it tough for subjects to offer dishonest samples, eliminating doubts over contamination or substitution attempts. This reliability aligns well with stringent corporate, legal, and security environments, ensuring scrutiny and transparency in testing methodologies.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
