Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Gale, Wisconsin. When you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our specialty expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with testing sites available across all cities nationwide for administering hair exams. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body can be used. These hair exams can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other custom hair testing solutions.

The past few years have seen hair follicle testing become increasingly popular for drug screening. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse specialists now opt for hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Such tests are favored by employers enforcing zero-tolerance policies, the judiciary, and individuals on probation. The key advantage is the extended drug detection window, typically up to 90 days, through observed collection that makes tampering nearly impossible. However, for drug screening within the last five days, urine tests remain more accurate.

What it is, How it works

The utilization of hair testing has gained recognition as an effective means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair acts as a repository for a prolonged history of substances by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When gathered close to the scalp, hair can offer up to around a 3-month timeframe in detecting alcohol and other substances. Hair sampling is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and easy to transport.

Collecting a 1.5-inch sample, approximately 200 strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp, yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for analysis. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. We advise using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair is not present, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. References to head hair pertain solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the preliminary processing of a sample within a laboratory's system. This process involves ensuring the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any required data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid evaluation for potential drugs of abuse. While it provides a cost-efficient means to eliminate drug usage from the majority of samples, a positive result necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples yielding a presumptive positive in Screening require a subsequent confirmation.

In cases where a sample shows a presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and readied for the Extraction phase. During Extraction, drugs are isolated from hair at markedly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most challenging methodology to execute.

Confirmation for any positive Screening outcome is conducted utilizing GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples that are presumptive positive are cleaned before confirmation as necessary. The entire laboratory protocol from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests have the ability to identify drug usage for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which have a briefer detection period.
  • Hard to manipulate: Hair drug tests are exceedingly challenging to falsify, thus enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It reveals patterns of drug use over time, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot reveal recent intake: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to emerge within hair strands.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically costlier than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Variables such as hair color and individual differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the assessment actually examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Gale, WI, significantly outshines urine testing due to its superior detection accuracy and reliability. Hair tests can detect a broader range of substances and remain effective over extended periods, providing a more comprehensive assessment. In contrast, urine tests tend to have a shorter detection window and are often subject to fraudulent manipulations.

When comparing detection methods, hair follicle testing offers unmatched scrutiny of substance history, making it a preferred option for employers and organizations aiming for rigorous drug-free policies. By providing an almost impossible-to-alter record, hair testing delivers unmatched assurance that urine tests simply cannot replicate.

Extended Detection Window

The advantage of hair follicle testing in Gale, WI, lies in its extended detection window which offers insight into an individual’s substance use over up to 90 days. This extended timeframe makes hair testing an excellent tool for employers seeking a thorough evaluation of an applicant or an employee's substance history.

The ability to trace substance use over such an extended period offers not only transparency but also aids in fostering a responsible workplace environment. This long-lasting detection capability provides crucial information that urine tests fail to deliver, locking in superior oversight and monitoring.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Gale, WI, hair follicle testing is recognized for being a tamper-resistant testing method. The design of these tests significantly reduces risks of sample adulteration, offering reliable and unquestionable results. Unlike urine tests, which can be subjected to manipulation, hair tests are far more secured and tamper-proof.

Due to the stringent collection and analysis procedures, hair follicle testing offers unmatched integrity in drug testing processes. This ensures that results are consistent and trustworthy, making them a valuable asset to employers and agencies who require uncompromised testing integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
