Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug examinations in Hager City, Wisconsin. If you're in need of a hair-based drug or alcohol analysis, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to expert in hair testing, with facilities available in every city across the nation for performing hair assessments. Typically, you'll need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body as samples. These tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or provide other tailored hair testing solutions.

In the past years, an increasing number of drug tests have included the hair follicle approach. Employers, legal systems, and substance abuse specialists increasingly favor hair drug tests over the traditional urine analysis. Hair follicle tests are preferred by employers adhering to strict no-drug-use policies, legal bodies, and individuals on probation. A key advantage of this method is its extended detection period for drug use, reaching up to 90 days, conducted under supervision to maintain integrity, and is virtually fraud-proof. However, for drug use detected within the past 5 days, urine analysis still offers the most accurate results.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair encapsulates a historical record of alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within its fibers as it grows. When harvested near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, resistant to tampering, and convenient for shipping.

A 1.5-inch sample amounting to around 200 hair strands (approximately the width of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimum amount for testing and validation. For EtG assessments, additional panels, and/or exceeding 10-panel tests, a 150mg sample is advisable. We suggest measuring the sample with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is absent, a proportionate quantity of body hair can be utilized. In context, scalp hair denotes head hair exclusively, while body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

Drug test results are processed through four key steps in the laboratory: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary phase where a sample is entered into a laboratory’s system, confirming the sample was sealed and shipped correctly, assigning a LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number) randomly, and finalizing any extra data input absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers an initial drug abuse check. Although cost-efficient for eliminating drug use in most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation for court admissibility. Samples indicated as positive in Screening require additional verification.

For samples presumed positive during Screening, additional hair is sourced from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. This phase involves extracting drugs from hair at a much lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening highly challenging to execute.

Positive screening results undergo Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed prior to confirmation as necessary. The entire process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is conducted in accordance with both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests provide a detection period of up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a shorter detection span.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Hair drug tests are nearly impossible to falsify, yielding more reliable results.
  • Provides historical data: They offer a record of drug use over time rather than merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days after use.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than alternative testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Even though often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In the debate between hair follicle testing and traditional urine tests, hair testing is superior. In Hager City, WI, hair tests provide highly accurate detection and reliability over a more extended period than urine tests, covering up to 90 days of drug history.

While urine tests are accurate for recent drug use within five days, hair tests offer broader detection, helping employers comply with zero-tolerance policies effectively, ensuring a drug-free environment.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Hager City, WI, offers the benefit of a prolonged detection window, identifying substance use for up to 90 days. This extensive period empowers employers with comprehensive insights into an individual's drug history.

The extended timeframe of hair testing is invaluable for employers, revealing long-term substance use that traditional methods might miss, ensuring informed hiring decisions and enhanced workplace safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
