Employment, Court Ordered, Probation, Family

Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening in Liberty Pole, Wisconsin. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is an expert in hair analysis, with facilities in all major cities across the country that conduct hair testing. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is required. Hair tests can be checked for substances, alcohol/ETG, or tailored hair analysis preferences.

In recent times, the approach to conducting drug tests has more often involved hair follicle analysis. A growing number of employers, judicial systems, and specialists in Substance Abuse are opting for hair tests over traditional urine exams. Adopting hair follicle testing allows zero-tolerance drug-using employers, legal authorities, and probationary individuals to apply it more effectively. The main advantage of hair follicle testing is its extended detection duration of drug usage, lasting typically up to 90 days, gathered in a monitored process, and virtually impossible to manipulate. However, for identifying drug use within the immediate past five days, urine tests remain the most precise.

* You must register by phone or online to receive your donor pass/registration prior to proceeding to the testing center. You must bring a valid government issued ID along with the registration/barcode number which was sent to you by email.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. The strands of hair capture the biomarkers of alcohol and other drugs within the fibers of the growing hair, offering an extended timeline of substance use history. When collected from the scalp, hair can indicate alcohol and drug use for a span of around 3 months. It is simple to gather, hard to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

Taking a 1.5-inch sample composed of approximately 200 hair strands (about the width of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional panels, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is suggested. We advocate for using a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equal quantity of body hair may be used. Our mention of head hair exclusively pertains to scalp hair. All other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.) are classified as body hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result consists of four principal steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the preliminary processing of a sample into a lab’s system. This process ensures that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, allocates a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any remaining data entry that is not covered by an electronic chain of custody setup.

Screening is an initial rapid test for identifying drug abuse. Although Screening is an economical way to dismiss drug consumption for most samples, any positive results must be confirmed to hold in legal proceedings. Samples with presumptive positive results in Screening require additional confirmation.

Upon yielding a presumptive positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. This phase involves extracting drugs from hair at a concentration significantly lower than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluids), highlighting why hair drug screening is the most challenging methodology to execute.

Confirmation of a positive Screening outcome is conducted via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive results are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use extending up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which offer a shorter detection period.
  • Challenging to manipulate: It is exceedingly challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, resulting in more precise outcomes.
  • Offers historical insights: It presents a pattern of drug usage over time, not just recent activities.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent usage: Drugs require approximately 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites within the hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is actually conducted on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.
