Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Lodi, Wisconsin. Our expertise lies in hair drug and alcohol tests, with centers available nationwide to conduct these assessments. Typically, having 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is required for head or body hair tests. Hair testing can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for specific testing needs.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become a preferred method over traditional means. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts are opting for hair tests rather than urine tests. These tests are crucial for workplaces with strict drug use bans, court cases, and probation scenarios. The main advantage is the extended detection window of up to 90 days, the observed and secure collection process, and the difficulty to manipulate. Urine tests still provide the most precise results for very recent drug use, typically within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is regarded as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of substance usage by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. Hair harvested near the scalp can provide a detection window of up to approximately three months for drugs and alcohol. Collection is straightforward, tampering is challenging, and shipping is uncomplicated.

A 1.5-inch section, containing around 200 hair strands—roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil—from near the scalp will yield 100mg, which is ideal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, or more than 10 panels, 150mg is advisable. Using a jeweler’s scale for weighing is recommended. In the absence of head hair, an equivalent amount of body hair may be used. "Head hair" specifies scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory analysis of a drug test result consists of four main stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

In Accessioning, a sample undergoes the initial integration into a laboratory system. This stage ensures the sample is sealed correctly and shipped securely, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid examination for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient solution for eliminating drug usage in most samples, any detected positives must be confirmed for court admissibility. Hence, presumptively positive samples necessitate secondary confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen for the Extraction stage. Drugs are then extracted from hair at a lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation for any positive Screening result is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as required. The procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can trace drug use for up to 90 days, surpassing urine tests with a shorter window.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Hair drug tests are nearly impossible to falsify, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Historical usage insight: These tests provide patterns of drug consumption over time, rather than only recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs take approximately 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests usually cost more than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Influences such as hair color and individual growth rates can alter the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Lodi, WI, hair follicle testing outperforms urine testing by offering a broader detection window for substance use. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair testing boasts a longer detection span and heightened reliability. This extensive detection capability offers more comprehensive insights into an individual's substance history, proving invaluable to employers and authorities.

Hair tests surpass urine testing in accuracy, capturing a more extended drug use pattern. Employers seeking robust assessment methods find this hugely beneficial. As more employment sectors adopt hair testing, the broader detection window becomes vital for maintaining workplace standards.

Extended Detection Window

One standout feature of hair follicle testing in Lodi, WI is its remarkable detection window of up to 90 days. This makes it an invaluable tool for providing employers with an in-depth view of an individual’s substance use history. Especially suitable for pre-employment screening, it allows for extended insights beyond the limitations faced by urine tests.

The expanded detection timeframe gives employers in Lodi a comprehensive understanding of a candidate's drug use. This extensive history check helps in making sound hiring decisions, assisting companies in maintaining a safe and productive environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Lodi, WI are lauded for being tamper-resistant, offering credible assessments of substance use. This advantage significantly reduces the risk of sample adulteration typical in other forms of drug testing, such as urine testing. The reliable nature of hair tests ensures that outcomes remain unchallenged and valid.

By resisting tampering attempts, hair tests provide peace of mind for employers and legal authorities. The integrity of the test is maintained from start to finish, ensuring that results reflect the true substance usage history of the individual being tested.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
