When you're searching for hair drug testing near me or hair drug testing locations, we provide a simple and convenient process to find a drug and alcohol testing location near you that is certified to provide all of your drug and alcohol testing needs.
Hair evaluation has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures biomarkers within the growing strands, offering a comprehensive record of alcohol and drug usage. Collected near the scalp, hair can reveal drug and alcohol use for up to three months. It is easy to collect, hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.
A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands near the scalp provides 100mg of hair, the optimal sample size for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional tests or those exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of hair is advised. We suggest measuring the sample with a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair isn't available, a similar amount of body hair can be used. When we talk about head hair, we mean scalp hair specifically. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).
Process Overview
The key phases of lab processing for drug tests are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning is the initial step of incorporating a sample into a lab's system. This step includes ensuring the sample's proper sealing and shipping, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any data entry missing from the electronic chain of custody system.
Screening involves an initial examination for drugs. While Screening efficiently eliminates most samples from suspicion, a positive result needs further verification for legal acceptance. Samples presumptively positive in Screening require an additional confirmation step.
For samples presumptively positive in Screening, extra hair is extracted from the sample and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are separated from hair at much lower levels than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair screening a challenging method.
Confirming positive results is done via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples are cleansed as necessary before confirmation. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is certified under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.
