Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in St. Francis, Wisconsin. Whether in need of hair drug or alcohol tests, we are proficient in hair testing and host testing facilities in every city nationwide prepared to conduct these tests. Typically, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches from the head or body is needed. Hair tests analyze drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other bespoke testing solutions.
Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly involved hair follicle tests. These tests are favored by many employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals, replacing traditional urine tests. Employers enforcing strict drug policies, judicial systems, and probationary scenarios utilize them. A primary advantage is a longer detection window for drug use, lasting up to 90 days, with an observed collection process that is highly secure. However, for detecting recent drug use (within 5 days), urine tests remain most accurate.

Hair exams are now regarded as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a comprehensive history of alcohol and other substances by encasing biomarkers in its evolving fibers. If collected near the scalp, hair can offer up to a 90-day detection timeframe for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient to dispatch.
A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (about the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp provides 100mg, the optimal quantity for analysis and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or examinations beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the material is suggested. We advise measuring the specimen on a jeweler’s balance. If head hair isn't available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. By head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair encompasses all other types like facial and axillary hair.
Process Overview
The laboratory processing of a drug test outcome includes four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning covers the initial handling of a sample within the lab system. This phase checks that the sample was properly sealed and sent, assigns an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fulfills any missing data entry from an electronic chain of custody mechanism.
Screening provides an initial rapid assessment for substance abuse. While Screening is budget-friendly for excluding drug usage in a majority of instances, a positive result demands confirmation to be valid in legal proceedings. Samples that are initially positive in Screening need subsequent verification.
If a specimen is preliminarily positive during Screening, additional hair is taken from the original sample for Preparation for Extraction. Drugs are isolated from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other techniques (e.g., urine or saliva), making hair drug tests notably challenging to conduct.
Confirmation of any positive Screening outcome is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All preliminary positive samples are cleansed as required before confirmation. The complete laboratory workflow from Accessioning to Confirmation is inspected under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 criteria.
