In Wentworth, Wisconsin, Accredited Drug Testing excels in offering comprehensive hair follicle drug tests. Whether you're in need of testing for drugs or alcohol, our expertise in hair testing is unparalleled, with centers located in every major city nationwide ready to cater to your testing needs. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is necessary from the scalp, though hair from other body areas can often be used. Our tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other customized substances.

Recently, the preference for drug testing methods has shifted towards hair follicle tests. A growing number of employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals are selecting this method over the traditional urine test. This is especially true for organizations with zero-tolerance policies towards drug use, judicial systems, and those on probation. One of the biggest advantages lies in its prolonged detection window for substance use, often capturing up to 90 days, robustly collected and minimally prone to tampering. However, for detecting recent use within five days, urine tests remain the gold standard.

What it is, How it works

Utilizing hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a comprehensive record of alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the hair as it grows. If hair is gathered near the scalp, it can reveal alcohol and drug use within approximately a 90-day timeframe. Hair is easy to collect, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section containing around 200 strands of hair (approximately resembling a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for both screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen. If scalp hair is not an option, a comparable amount of body hair can be used. Head hair specifically refers to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (like facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

Drug test outcomes in a lab involve four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is about initial processing of a sample into the lab’s protocol. This step ensures that the sample is securely sealed and dispatched, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and any data not inputted by an electronic custody system is completed.

Screening provides an initial assessment for drug abuse. Although it's cost-efficient for dismissing drug usage in most samples, a positive screening must be confirmed for legal acceptability. Any samples that initially test positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

If a sample tests positive in the Screening, additional hair is extracted from the same sample and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair testing one of the more complex screening methods.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques confirm any positive screening outcomes. Presumptive positive samples undergo cleaning before confirmation as required. The entire lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation adheres to the standards of the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have shorter detection periods.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is quite challenging, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Historical insight: It offers insight into drug use patterns over time, beyond just recent consumption.

Drawbacks:

  • Unable to track recent usage: Drugs usually become traceable in hair after 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than alternative testing methods.
  • Result variations: Various factors, such as hair color and growth variability, can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Commonly known as "hair follicle tests," this analysis examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Wentworth, WI, hair follicle testing is increasingly favored over traditional urine tests due to its superior benefits. Hair tests offer a longer detection window, capturing drug use for up to 90 days, while urine tests typically detect substances used in the last few days. This extended window provides a more comprehensive view of an individual's drug use, making hair tests highly appealing for employers who enforce strict drug-free policies.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Wentworth, WI offers an extended detection window that is unparalleled by other testing methods. Capable of identifying drug use for up to 90 days, it provides a holistic overview of a person’s substance use history. This feature is particularly beneficial for employers, as it allows them to make more informed decisions based on potential employees' long-term drug use patterns. The extended detection ensures a comprehensive assessment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Wentworth, WI are renowned for significantly reducing the risk of adulteration. By analyzing the drug presence within the hair's cortex, the method ensures that test results are both reliable and difficult to falsify. Unlike urine tests, which can potentially be manipulated, hair testing provides a tamper-resistant solution that maintains the credibility and integrity of the drug-testing process.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
