Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Riverside, Wyoming. If a hair drug or alcohol test is needed, Accredited Drug Testing offers these services across all U.S. cities, including Riverside. With 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body, a wide array of substances, including drugs and alcohol/ETG, can be detected through our specialized hair testing.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have gained immense popularity for drug testing. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse specialists increasingly prefer hair tests over traditional urine tests. Zero-tolerance companies, probation services, and courts utilize hair tests for their extended detection span of up to 90 days and observer-collected samples. Despite this, urine tests remain best for detecting recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged historical record of alcohol and drug intake by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of hair as it grows. When hair samples are gathered near the scalp, they can reveal drug and alcohol use within a detection period of up to about three months. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A hair sample of 1.5 inches comprising around 200 strands (akin to the width of a #2 pencil) taken nearest the scalp will yield 100mg, which is ideal for both screening and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is advisable. It is suggested to weigh the specimen using a jeweler's scale. Should scalp hair be unavailable, a corresponding quantity of body hair is acceptable. When mentioning head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (such as facial or axillary).

Overview of the Process

The main sequences in the lab examination of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the preliminary integration of a sample into a lab's system. This stage involves ensuring the sample's secure sealing and accurate shipment, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any supplementary data entry not facilitated by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening encompasses an initial swift assessment for substance misuse. Though Screening is a cost-effective method to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive outcome necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. Any samples considered positive after Screening mandate further confirmation.

Should a sample show presumptive positivity during Screening, extra hair is extracted from the original sample and made ready for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are removed from hair at concentrations much lower than other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair drug screening is the most complex methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcomes is achieved via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. Any presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as needed. The whole lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review in accordance with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standards and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 criteria.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which possess a limited detection timeframe.
  • Resistance to tampering: It is exceedingly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, thus enhancing result accuracy.
  • Delivers historical insight: It reveals a drug usage pattern over time, instead of only recent usage.

Constraints:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It requires roughly 5-7 days for drugs to become noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments are typically pricier than other drug evaluation methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: While often known as "hair follicle tests", the actual analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle underneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Choose Hair Follicle Testing Over Urine Testing in Riverside, WY? Hair follicle tests offer distinct advantages in drug detection accuracy compared to urine tests. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
