What is checked in a DOT Physical?

What Will Fail a DOT Physical?
Medical Conditions That Can Fail a DOT Physical
- Vision & Hearing: Less than 20/40 in each eye (corrected), can't discern traffic signal hues, or hearing incapable of detecting a forced whisper at 5 feet.
- Blood Pressure & Heart Disease: Uncontrolled hypertension (≥180/110 mmHg), recent myocardial infarction or stroke, unmanaged angina, or an implanted defibrillator lacking approval.
- Diabetes: Uncontrolled diabetes leading to hypoglycemic incidents or complications (neuropathy, vision issues) impeding safe driving.
- Sleep Apnea & Respiratory Issues: Untreated sleep apnea causing daytime fatigue, or grave lung disorder hindering oxygen levels.
- Neurological Disorders: Epilepsy/seizure disorders (unless exempt), illnesses causing abrupt blackout, dizziness, or uncontrolled shaking.
- Substance Abuse: Ongoing illegal drug use, alcoholism, or prescription misuse hindering driving ability.
- Psychiatric & Cognitive Disorders: Severe unmanaged psychiatric condition (e.g., schizophrenia, recent bipolar episodes) or cognitive decline affecting judgment.
Temporary and Permanent Disqualification: Some issues might merely temporarily disqualify until clearance or documents available (e.g., managed blood pressure, diabetes); others like unmediated seizures or implanted defibrillators often permanently disqualify per FMCSA guidelines.

I needed a quick drug test for visitation with my children. I called at 6am they answered and set me up with a place a couple miles from my house to go get the test done, that was on Wednesday, I had the results on Friday afternoon and was able to see my kids on Saturday. Thank you for the help!
