- Sleep & Breathing Disorders: Untreated sleep apnea causing daytime sleepiness, or severe respiratory illnesses affecting oxygenation, are disqualifying.
- Neurological Conditions: Epilepsy or conditions provoking sudden unconsciousness or uncontrolled tremors generally disqualify unless exempted.
- Substance Concerns: Illegal drug use or alcohol dependence that prejudices safe driving are disqualifying.
- Mental & Cognitive Health: Severe uncontrolled mental health issues like untreated schizophrenia or bipolar disorder can affect driver eligibility under FMCSA standards.
Temporary disqualifications may occur until medical documentation or treatment proof is provided, as in manageably high blood pressure cases, whereas untreated seizures or defibrillator without exception may mean permanent disqualification.
