Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Range, Alabama. If you're looking for a hair-based drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing has expertise in this area with testing centers across all cities nationwide capable of performing such tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body can be used. Hair samples can be examined for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other custom options.
Recently, drug testing methods have more often included hair follicle drug tests. Many employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals opt for hair drug tests instead of standard urine tests. Hair follicle tests serve employers who enforce zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and those on probation. A key advantage of hair follicle drug testing is a longer detection timeframe for drugs — up to 90 days. It’s collected under supervision and hard to falsify. However, for recent drug activity within 5 days, urine tests remain most precise.

When you're searching for hair drug testing near me or hair drug testing locations, we provide a simple and convenient process to find a drug and alcohol testing location near you that is certified to provide all of your drug and alcohol testing needs.
The utilization of hair testing as a means of detecting drug and alcohol use has become notably effective. Hair fibers capture biomarkers from alcohol and other drugs during their growth, offering a historical overview of substance use. Collecting hair near the scalp can showcase a detection period of up to roughly three months for both alcohol and drugs. This method is easy to collect, less prone to tampering, and uncomplicated to transport.
A sample measuring 1.5 inches containing approximately 200 strands (resembling a #2 pencil in size) taken from the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the favorable sample size for screening and verification. For EtG, additional panels, and/or testing exceeding 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advised. Utilizing a jeweler's scale to weigh the specimen is recommended. In the absence of scalp hair, an equivalent portion of body hair is achievable. When discussing head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair, whereas body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).
Process Overview
The laboratory processing of a drug test result encompasses four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning marks the commencement of processing a sample within a laboratory’s system. The procedure ensures that the sample is sealed and sent correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any needed data entry that isn't covered by an electronic chain of custody system.
Screening consists of an initial rapid assessment for drugs. This cost-efficient method helps to exclude drug usage in most samples; however, a positive screen necessitates confirmation for court admissibility. Presumptive positive samples from Screening mandate a secondary confirmation.
Upon identifying a sample as presumptively positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the initial specimen to prepare for Extraction. This step extracts drugs from hair at a reduced concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), showcasing why hair drug testing is challenging.
Positive screening results undergo Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples that are presumptively positive undergo a washing process before confirmation as needed. Every stage from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes evaluation under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.
