Accredited Drug Testing offers complete hair follicle drug assessments in Mud Bay, Alaska. If you require a hair analysis for drug or alcohol use, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to specialist with centers across all cities nationwide ready to conduct hair examinations. Ensure you have 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or elsewhere on your body. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

In recent times, the preference for drug testing has shifted towards hair follicle drug assessments. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts prefer hair testing over the traditional urine test. Hair follicle analysis is favored by employers under zero-tolerance drug policies, the judiciary, and those on probation. This test's main advantage is its extended drug detection window, often up to 90 days, through observed collection and nearly impossible to falsify. Yet, for detecting substance use within the preceding 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a compelling method for spotting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair can reveal a long-term record of alcohol and other substances by capturing biomarkers within the strands during growth. When hair is gathered near the scalp, it can offer a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and other substances. Collecting hair is straightforward, reasonably resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample comprising roughly 200 strands of hair (similar in size to a #2 pencil) near the scalp will provide 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or evaluations exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen. If scalp hair is inaccessible, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be collected. References to head hair pertain exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair includes other types such as facial and axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory process for a drug test result involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the sample's initial entry into the lab's system. It includes verifying proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplemental data entry not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary quick assessment for abused drugs. While Screening is a cost-efficient method for ruling out drug use in most samples, a positive result requires Confirmation for court acceptability. Samples that test presumptively positive during Screening necessitate an additional Confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the primary specimen and prepared for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are isolated from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug analysis one of the most challenging methodologies to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is conducted through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo a washing prior to Confirmation if required. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed both under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can detect substance use for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which offer a shorter detection window.
  • Resistance to tampering: It is exceptionally difficult to manipulate a hair drug test, improving the accuracy of results.
  • Tracks historical use: It can reveal a timeline of drug use over a prolonged period, not solely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent usage: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Factors such as hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Despite often being called "hair follicle tests", the examination focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Mud Bay, AK, hair follicle testing outranks urine analysis with its superior detection accuracy. Unlike urine tests, hair tests track drug use over a more extended period, revealing true substance habits. Employers and professionals favor hair testing for its reliable detection capabilities.

Hair follicle tests offer unmatched accuracy and reliability compared to urine testing. These tests are pivotal for those seeking comprehensive assessments, ensuring detection of drug usage beyond the limited timeframe that urine tests cover.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle tests in Mud Bay, AK, is a game-changer. These tests capture drug use records for up to 90 days, offering employers a thorough understanding of an applicant's or employee's substance or alcohol use history.

Employers in Mud Bay, AK, appreciate the lengthy detection window available through hair follicle testing. This comprehensive period reveals consistent drug use patterns, providing a more accurate profile of an individual's substance history, in contrast to shorter-term tests.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Mud Bay, AK, highlight a tamper-resistant approach to drug testing. By significantly reducing the potential for sample adulteration, these tests ensure that results remain reliable and beyond reproach, offering employers peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
