In Beedeville, Arkansas, Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug testing services. Experts in this type of testing, our nationwide centers are equipped to conduct hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is required. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored for other testing needs.

Hair follicle drug tests have become increasingly popular for drug screening in recent years. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse specialists now prefer hair tests to traditional urine tests. These tests are used to enforce zero-tolerance policies and monitor probation periods. The main advantage is their extended detection window of up to 90 days, collected under supervision, making them difficult to manipulate. However, for detecting recent drug use within five days, urine tests remain the gold standard.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is widely recognized as a strong method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged history of substance use by embedding biomarkers in the fibers of the hair strand as it grows. When sourced near the scalp, hair can reveal up to a three-month detection timeframe for alcohol and various drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (about the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp can provide 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for screening and confirmation. For EtG add-ons and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is preferred. We advise measuring the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be taken. When mentioning head hair, it pertains exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

Laboratory processing of drug test results involves four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning begins with the initial sample processing into a lab’s system. It involves ensuring that the sample is securely sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any necessary data entries beyond those provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening conducts a preliminary check for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-effective method to dismiss drug usage for most samples, a positive screening requires confirmation to be valid in legal settings. Samples that yield presumptive positives in Screening move to a secondary confirmation step.

If a sample shows presumptive positivity in the Screening stage, additional hair is drawn from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. During this stage, drugs are separated from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which explains why hair drug screening is the most challenging methodology to conduct.

Confirming any positive screening outcome is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair requirements and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection period: Hair drug tests detect drug use up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a more limited detection timeframe.
  • Difficult to falsify: Cheating on a hair drug test is highly challenging, ensuring more precise results.
  • Provides usage history: It reveals a pattern of drug use over an extended duration, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests are pricier compared to other drug testing methodologies.
  • Result variability: Influences such as hair color and individual hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although often termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand rather than the scalp’s hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When it comes to drug testing in Beedeville, AR, hair follicle tests outperform traditional urine tests by offering greater detection accuracy. These tests can reliably detect drug use over a long period, unlike urine tests, which focus on recent consumption. Hair tests provide superior detection of drug use patterns, offering invaluable insights into long-term substance use behavior.

Compared to other methods, hair follicle testing is more resistant to tampering, ensuring the integrity of results. The testing process is observed, making it difficult for individuals to manipulate the sample. Employers and legal entities trust hair testing for its unparalleled reliability and detection span, which urine tests cannot match.

Extended Detection Window

In Beedeville, AR, the extended detection period of hair follicle tests is a notable advantage. These tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, far surpassing the typical time frame of urine tests. This broad detection window grants employers comprehensive insight into an individual's drug history, aiding in the assessment of their suitability for employment or other responsibilities.

With hair follicle testing, a broader understanding of an individual's substance use is possible. This method looks at long-term drug habits, offering crucial data for making informed decisions about hiring, ongoing employment, or legal matters within a 90-day scope. Employers benefit significantly from this in-depth analysis that traditional testing cannot provide.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The hair follicle method used in Beedeville, AR, significantly reduces the chances of sample adulteration. Its robust collection process ensures that the sample remains tamper-proof, generating trustworthy results. The observed nature of the test adds an extra layer of security, making it nearly impossible for test subjects to alter or compromise their sample in any way.

Compared to urine testing, hair follicle testing offers substantial resistance to manipulation. By avoiding the common pitfalls of other testing methods, it guarantees accurate, reliable outcomes. Employers can depend on its tamper-resistance to uphold strict substance testing standards, achieving dependable and undeniable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
