Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug screening for Bradford, Arkansas. Whether you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise in hair testing ensures accurate results, with facilities across all cities nationwide ready to assist. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body can be tested. Our hair tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other customized testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become more prevalent. Many businesses, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts prefer hair tests over traditional urine tests. These tests are ideal for employers maintaining zero-tolerance policies, the judiciary, or individuals under probation. The extended detection period, reaching up to 90 days, the supervised collection process, and the challenge to manipulate results make hair testing a preferred choice. Yet, for detecting usage within the past five days, urine tests are still the most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair evaluation has emerged as an effective method for identifying substance usage. Hair captures a prolonged history of what a person consumes by embedding biomarkers within the steadily growing hair fibers. When cut near the scalp, hair can offer nearly a 3-month period for detecting alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section with roughly 200 hairs (comparable to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for testing and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels over 10, a 150mg sample is suggested. We advise using a jeweler’s scale to measure the sample. If scalp hair is absent, an equivalent portion of body hair can be obtained. By head hair, we indicate only scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all others (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary phases in lab processing of a substance test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the phase where a sample enters a lab’s workflow. This phase includes confirming the sample’s proper sealing and dispatch, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and adding any needed data not included in an electronic chain of custody.

Screening entails a preliminary assessment for substance abuse. Screening is a budget-friendly way to exclude drug use for the majority of samples; however, court admissibility requires confirmation of a positive screen. Samples that are considered presumptively positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample show presumptive positivity in Screening, extra hair is extracted from the initial collection and readied for Extraction. At this stage, substances are removed from hair at a much lower concentration than in alternate techniques, such as urine or saliva, making hair drug assessment the most complex technique to execute.

Validation of any positive screening findings is carried out with GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any presumptively positive samples undergo a wash prior to confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory workflow, from Accessioning to Verification, is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair specifications and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection period: Hair drug testing identifies drug usage for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests that have a reduced window.
  • Hard to falsify: It's exceedingly difficult to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing result precision.
  • Displays historical usage: Reveals a pattern of substance use over a timeframe, not only recent instances.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of spotting recent usage: Detection of drugs within hair takes about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments typically cost more than other testing approaches.
  • Result discrepancies: Variables such as hair hue and personal hair growth variations may influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually reviews the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine testing in Bradford, AR by offering more accurate and reliable results. Compared to the limited detection window of urine tests, hair testing tracks drug use over a longer period, providing employers with detailed insights into substance use history. Employers fostering drug-free environments consider hair tests as a superior screening tool, ensuring adherence to stringent policies.

Extended Detection Window

Offering an extensive detection period, hair follicle testing in Bradford, AR covers drug use over up to 90 days. This makes it an effective strategy for employers to gain comprehensive insights into an applicant or employee's drug history. By extending the detection window far beyond conventional methods, hair testing proves invaluable in monitoring long-term substance use.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing significantly diminishes the risk of sample tampering in Bradford, AR, ensuring uncompromised results. The nature of the test prevents adulteration, making it nearly impossible to cheat. Thus, employers gain confidence in the integrity and reliability of the outcomes provided through this superior testing method.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
