Providing comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Busch, Arkansas, Accredited Drug Testing is the go-to for hair-related drug and alcohol screening. Our expertise spans hair testing services, with multiple centers nationwide ready to facilitate your testing needs. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is typically required for accurate testing, capable of detecting drugs, alcohol/ETG, or custom panelings

Hair follicle drug tests have seen a rise in utilization due to their effectiveness, being favored by employers, judicial bodies, and substance abuse specialists over the more conventional urine tests. Ideal for rigorous, no-drug policies, and judicial monitoring, these tests offer a 90-day detection window and are extremely difficult to falsify, although urine tests remain better for drugs used within the previous 5 days.

What it is, How it works

A prominent approach for identifying drug and alcohol consumption involves hair testing. Hair serves as a long-term record of alcohol and various substances, as it captures biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to three months for alcohol and other drugs. Its collection is straightforward, tampering difficult, and shipment easy.

A sample of 1.5 inches comprising around 200 hair strands (roughly the width of a #2 pencil) taken from the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For tests like EtG, add-ons, or those exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is advised. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen is suggested. If scalp hair is unavailable, an equal volume of body hair may be sourced. When referencing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair denotes any other types such as facial or axillary hair.

Process Overview

There are four fundamental stages within the laboratory processing of a drug test outcome: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary process of integrating a sample into a lab’s system. This procedure includes ensuring the sample’s proper sealing and shipment, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and addressing any extra data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers an initial rapid assessment for substance abuse. While Screening is an economical approach to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive screen demands confirmation to hold in court. Samples flagged as presumptively positive in Screening need additional confirmation.

Should a sample be presumptively positive at the Screening phase, further hair is obtained from the primary specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are drawn from hair at a substantially lower concentration than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), marking hair drug testing as the most challenging method to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive result from screening is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples marked presumptive positive are washed before confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory sequence from Accessioning through Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection period: Hair drug tests have the ability to identify drug usage up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which offer a shorter detection window.
  • Hard to deceive: Cheating a hair drug test is notably challenging, enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Offers usage history: It reveals a pattern of drug consumption spanning a period, not limited to recent usage only.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: It generally requires around 5-7 days for drugs to be identified in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the level of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: While commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the test actually assesses the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Busch, AR, offers superior detection accuracy over urine testing. Unlike urine tests, which provide a shorter detection window, hair tests chart substance use across a longer timeframe. The reliable outcomes make hair testing invaluable for those seeking assured accuracy and dependability in drug screenings. Hair tests unveil deeper history, crucial for rigorous and comprehensive assessments.

Extended Detection Window

One advantage of hair follicle testing in Busch, AR, is the extended detection period it provides. Capable of identifying drug use for up to 90 days, it offers a wider assessment range than urine testing. Employers can benefit from this comprehensive view, making informed and trusted decisions concerning applicant or employee's drug histories. It confirms long-term substance use beyond short-term behavior.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

A key benefit of hair follicle testing in Busch, AR, is its resistance to tampering. Unlike urine tests, hair samples are less vulnerable to adulteration, ensuring the integrity of results. The robust nature of this testing method minimizes the possibility of result manipulation, thus providing more trustworthy outcomes. This reliability makes hair tests a preferred choice for secure substance use screenings.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
