Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle testing services in Compton, Arkansas. Those needing a drug or alcohol hair test can rely on Accredited for specialized hair analysis, with testing sites available across the nation. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of head hair, or body hair, is necessary for testing. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer other tailored hair testing solutions.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become a more prevalent method. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse specialists often prefer hair tests over traditional urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, judicial systems, and probation services favor hair follicle testing. Its key advantage is the extended detection window for drug usage, up to 90 days, along with an observed collection process, making it nearly foolproof. Nonetheless, urine tests remain the preferred choice for detecting recent drug use, within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is widely recognized as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol use. Hair captures a historical record of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When collected from near the scalp, hair can offer around a 3-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and drug use. Hair is straightforward to collect, challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches consisting of about 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional testing, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg is advised. We suggest measuring the specimen with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not accessible, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. By head hair, we mean only scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary processing of a sample within a laboratory’s system. This step ensures that the sample was sealed and shipped correctly, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any necessary data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of an initial check for drugs of abuse. While it is a cost-efficient method to rule out drug use in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation to be acceptable in legal proceedings. Any sample that tests presumptively positive during Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is taken from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. This stage involves extracting drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug testing is the most complex methodology to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive specimens are cleaned before confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that have a shorter window.
  • Challenging to deceive: Cheating a hair drug test is very difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical data: It can show a trend of drug use over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: It takes roughly 5-7 days for drugs to be detected in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis involves the hair strand and not the follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing offers significant advantages over urine testing in Compton, AR. Its detection accuracy is superior, providing dependable outcomes that highlight past drug use. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis has a broader reach, ensuring that even infrequent drug use doesn't go unnoticed. This makes hair testing a preferred choice, offering a more comprehensive picture of an individual's substance use history.

Extended Detection Window

In Compton, AR, hair follicle testing serves as an effective tool for identifying drug use over an extended timeline. Unlike traditional methods, it reviews an individual's substance intake over the past 90 days, offering employers a detailed understanding of a person's substance habits. This prolonged detection window is invaluable for assessing long-term compliance with drug-free policies.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

For those seeking foolproof testing methods in Compton, AR, hair follicle tests are a viable solution. By significantly minimizing the chances of sample tampering, they offer undeniable authenticity. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
