Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug tests in Danville, Arkansas. For those in need of a hair test for drugs or alcohol, they excel in such services with centers nationwide ready to conduct these tests. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is typically required. Tests screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other personalized options.

Lately, hair follicle testing has become more popular in conducting drug tests. Many employers, legal systems, and substance abuse specialists prefer hair tests over conventional urine tests. Companies with strict no-drug policies, legal authorities, and those on probation benefit from this method. Its main advantage is a longer detection span, up to 90 days, almost impossible to tamper with, though urine tests remain best for detecting recent use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a potent method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and other drugs by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When gathered close to the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to approximately 3 months for alcohol and other drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and easily transportable.

A 1.5-inch segment of around 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's thickness) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for analysis and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, 150mg of the specimen is preferred. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to measure the sample. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be gathered. When we mention head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair covers all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result encompasses four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This process verifies that the sample was suitably sealed and transported, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any supplementary data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid evaluation for drugs of abuse. Screening serves as a cost-efficient method to negate drug usage in the majority of samples; however, a positive screen necessitates confirmation to be legally credible. Samples that are preliminarily positive in Screening need secondary confirmation.

If Screening indicates a presumptive positive, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen for Extraction preparation. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at notably lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening a particularly challenging methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives undergo necessary washes before confirmation. The complete laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is evaluated against both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection periods.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating on hair drug tests is highly challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical insight: It offers a timeline of drug use over an extended duration, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs are only detectable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically costlier than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Differences such as hair color and personal variations in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: Despite often being termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is performed on the hair strand and not the sub-surface hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over urine tests in Danville, AR? The benefits are clear. Hair tests provide superior detection accuracy because they screen for substances over a longer period than urine tests, which mainly capture recent usage. This makes it an invaluable tool for employers looking to maintain a drug-free environment, as they can rely on the reliability and precision such tests offer.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Danville, AR, boasts an extended detection window, analyzing drug use for up to 90 days. This method provides employers with a detailed view of an individual’s substance use history, offering a more comprehensive assessment than shorter-term urine tests. This benefit assures employers of a thorough evaluation of their employees' long-term habits.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing is the preferred choice in Danville, AR, for its tamper-resistant properties. Unlike urine tests, hair testing reduces the risk of sample adulteration, ensuring reliable and trustworthy results. This quality gives stakeholders confidence in the validity of the outcomes, reinforcing the test’s integrity and dependability in various settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
