Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug testing services in Flag, Arkansas. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol test, we are specialists in hair testing with centers across all cities nationwide. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body can be used. Hair testing covers drugs, alcohol/ETG, or customized options.

Over recent years, drug testing has shifted toward hair follicle tests. Employers, courts, and substance abuse experts now prefer these over standard urine exams. Hair tests are ideal for zero-tolerance workplaces and probationary situations. The chief advantage is their extended detection period up to 90 days, collected under supervision, and challenging to tamper with. However, for drug use in the past 5 days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a robust method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a historical record of substances by embedding biomarkers in its fibers as it grows. When taken near the scalp, it offers up to a 3-month window for detecting alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, tough to tamper with, and easy to ship.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with around 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is suggested. We advocate weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is unavailable, a similar quantity of body hair may be used. By head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair includes all other types (like facial or axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, samples are initially processed in a laboratory system, ensuring they are properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a preliminary quick review for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is cost-efficient for ruling out drug usage in most samples, a positive result needs confirmation to be valid in court. Presumptive positives in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample is presumptively positive, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen for the Extraction stage. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at much lower concentrations than other methods (like urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing the most challenging to execute.

Confirmation of any positive Screening result uses GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives undergo washing prior to confirmation if necessary. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation adheres to both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests detect drug use for up to 90 days, while urine tests offer a shorter window.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, enhancing accuracy.
  • Chronological data: Offers a timeline of drug usage over an extended period, not merely current use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair within approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair tests are generally pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and personal differences in growth can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis involves the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Flag, AR

When comparing hair follicle testing to more traditional urine tests, hair testing demonstrates a superior detection window, recognizing drug use up to 90 days prior. This extensive period surpasses the shorter detection span of urine tests, providing a broader view of an individual's substance use history in Flag, AR.

Moreover, hair tests offer a more tamper-resistant method, reducing the chance of sample adulteration, unlike urine tests. Thus, they ensure higher detection accuracy and reliability in results.

Extended Detection Window

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
