Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Garfield, Arkansas. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our organization excels in hair testing, with facilities in every city across the Nation equipped to conduct a hair test. Typically, hair samples collected from the crown of your head or body need to be between 1.5 to 2 inches. This test can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has increasingly become a preferred method. More employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are opting for hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. These tests are employed by employers who enforce zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and individuals under probation. The main advantage of hair follicle testing lies in its extended detection timeframe, usually up to 90 days, with samples gathered during observed collections, making tampering nearly impossible. However, urine tests remain most accurate for recent drug use within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective means of identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a comprehensive record of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers in the strands as they grow. Collected near the scalp, hair can offer an approximate 3-month detection window for substance usage. The collection process is straightforward, altering the sample is challenging, and shipping is uncomplicated.

A 1.5-inch sample of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the circumference of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation purposes. For EtG, additional tests, or examinations exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler's scale for weighing the sample. Should scalp hair be inaccessible, a similar volume of body hair can be collected. "Head hair" pertains solely to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procedure for processing a drug test result comprises four primary phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, a sample undergoes initial processing in a laboratory system. This phase includes verifying the sample’s proper sealing and shipping, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening facilitates an initial, swift assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening serves as a cost-efficient means to exclude drug use in most samples, positive findings require confirmation for court admissibility. Presumptively positive samples in Screening necessitate secondary confirmation.

When screening indicates a presumptive positive, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction phase. In this phase, drug extraction from hair occurs at a significantly lower concentration compared to other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug screening the most complex methodology to execute.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods are employed to confirm any positive screening outcomes. All samples preliminarily identified as positive are washed before confirmation as needed. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes scrutiny under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which offer a shorter detection timespan.
  • Hard to circumvent: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, thus enhancing accuracy.
  • Provides historical patterns: It illustrates a pattern of substance use over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair only after about 5-7 days.
  • Expenses: Hair drug tests typically incur higher costs than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Outcome variability: Elements such as hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the concentration of drug metabolites present.

Note: Commonly dubbed "hair follicle tests," these evaluations actually assess the hair strand itself, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing surpasses urine tests by offering superior detection capabilities. In Garfield, AR, this method is less invasive and captures more extended drug use histories, which is vital for employers seeking accurate insights. Compared to urine tests, which detect recent use, hair tests reveal patterns over months, providing a clearer picture of an individual's substance history, thus ensuring reliable outcomes.

Extended Detection Window

The hair follicle testing method is unparalleled in its extended detection window, reaching up to 90 days. In Garfield, AR, this allows employers to observe an employee's or applicant's substance use over a far more extended period than traditional tests. This comprehensive view is invaluable for making informed decisions based on an individual's complete substance history, boosting workplace safety and integrity.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

One of the outstanding features of hair follicle tests is their tamper-resistant nature. In Garfield, AR, these tests prevent sample adulteration, ensuring that the results are both reliable and indisputable. This leads to increased confidence in the findings, as the likelihood of manipulation is significantly reduced, thus securing the test's integrity and maintaining fairness in analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
