At this step, drugs are derived from hair at a significantly lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which explains the complexity of hair drug screening.
GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods conduct confirmation of any positive screening result. Before confirmation, all presumptive positive samples are washed as needed. The full laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.
