Offering comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Pangburn, Arkansas, Accredited Drug Testing excels in performing hair and alcohol tests. With nationwide centers, we conduct hair tests efficiently. Typically requiring 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair, these tests identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or specific substances tailored to your needs.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become a preferred method for detecting substance use. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals favor them over traditional urine tests. Organizations with zero-tolerance policies, as well as courts and parolees, rely on them. Their main advantage lies in the extended detection window of up to 90 days, with an observed collection process making the results hard to tamper with. However, urine tests remain more accurate for detecting recent use, within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is gaining recognition as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the emerging hair strands. By collecting hair near the scalp, it is possible to achieve an estimated 3-month detection timeframe for drugs and alcohol. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-proof, and convenient for transportation.

A hair sample of 1.5 inches, comprising roughly 200 strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's width) near the scalp, provides 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and verification. For EtG, additional testing, and/or panels exceeding ten, 150mg of the sample is advisable. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen is suggested. In cases where scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be sourced. References to head hair pertain solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

Laboratory processing of drug test results encompasses four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

The Accessioning phase includes registering a sample into the lab's framework. This involves confirming the sample's secure sealing and proper shipment, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing additional data entry absent from electronic chain of custody systems.

Screening provides an initial rapid assessment for abuse substances. Although Screening efficiently rules out drug use in most cases, a positive result necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. Presumptively positive Screening samples require further confirmation.

Should the Screening phase indicate a presumptive positive, additional hair from the primary sample is prepared for Extraction. This phase involves isolating drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug screening the most challenging methodology.

Verification of positive screening outcomes is performed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Necessary washing of all presumptively positive samples is completed prior to confirmation. The comprehensive laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized following CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair guidelines and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug testing can identify drug use over a 90-day span, in contrast to shorter detection periods in urine testing.
  • Resistance to tampering: Hair drug tests are challenging to manipulate, enhancing result precision.
  • Historical insight: It offers a comprehensive view of drug usage patterns, rather than merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Approximately 5-7 days are required for drugs to manifest in hair samples.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug testing incurs higher costs than alternative methods.
  • Outcome variability: Concentrations of drug metabolites in hair can be influenced by factors such as hair color and individual hair growth differences.

Note: While commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, not the underlying follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Pangburn, AR

When comparing hair follicle testing to urine tests, the benefits become clear. Hair testing offers a significantly extended detection period, catching substance use up to 90 days prior. This surpasses the usual short window of urine tests, which detect drugs used in the last few days. Furthermore, the reliability of hair tests is unparalleled, minimizing chances of manipulation and increasing assurance in the results.

In essence, while urine tests may serve specific short-term detection needs, the comprehensive insight into drug use history provided by hair follicle tests makes them an invaluable resource for employers with serious anti-drug policies. Their superior detection accuracy and expanded timeframe present a strong case for their use over urine testing in Pangburn.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Pangburn, AR

Hair follicle testing is a stand-out method due to its ability to trace drug usage over an extended timeframe, sometimes up to 90 days. This provides a detailed insight into an individual's substance habits, offering a snapshot of their drug consumption history beyond what is possible with shorter detection methods. For employers and legal entities, this means more comprehensive analysis and informed decision-making.

Comparing applicants or employees over several months enhances workplace safety and integrity, revealing patterns that could impact job performance. Utilizing this extended window ensures employers in Pangburn get a complete perspective on a person's drug history, fostering better-informed hiring decisions and maintaining workplace standards.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

This method significantly decreases the likelihood of sample adulteration, ensuring that findings are reliable and accurate.

For organizations in Pangburn seeking clarity and certainty in drug testing, hair tests' inherent resistance to tampering translates to peace of mind. By maintaining the integrity of samples and thereby the validity of results, hair follicle testing provides a trustworthy basis for evaluating substance use amongst employees.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
