In Williford, Arkansas, Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug tests. Specializing in hair analysis for drugs or alcohol, we're equipped with testing centers across all cities Nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head's crown or body is required. Our hair tests can be customized for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific analyses.

Recently, hair follicle testing has gained popularity as a drug testing method. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals increasingly favor it over traditional urine tests. Hair tests benefit zero-tolerance policies due to their extended detection period of up to 90 days. Despite the strict collection process, they prevent cheating. However, for drug use within the last 5 days, urine testing remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a potent means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair strands capture biomarkers within their fibers, preserving a long-term record of substance use. Samples taken closely to the scalp can reveal alcohol and drug usage within an estimated 3-month period. The collection process is straightforward, difficult to alter, and easy to send.

A 1.5-inch section comprising approximately 200 hair strands (akin in size to a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg, the perfect amount for screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, or panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is suggested. Utilize a jeweler’s scale to measure the sample. If scalp hair isn't obtainable, an equivalent of body hair may be used. "Head hair" refers exclusively to scalp hair, while "body hair" includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result includes four main steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the primary step where a sample is integrated into the laboratory’s system. This step involves checking if the sample is properly sealed and shipped, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fulfilling any outstanding data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening relies on an initial swift assessment for drugs of abuse. Though Screening economically excludes drug usage in most samples, any positive screen must be verified to hold court validity. Samples that are presumptively positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample display positivity in Screening, additional hair is sourced from the initial sample for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are retrieved from hair at comparatively lower concentrations than in other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening uniquely challenging.

Positive screening results are confirmed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methodologies. Presumptively positive samples undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. Each lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair specification and complies with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests reveal drug use for up to 90 days, outlasting urine tests which have a reduced timeframe.
  • Resistance to evasion: Altering hair drug tests is greatly challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Chronological data: These tests offer a drug use pattern over time, unlike reflecting only recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting current use: Drugs take around 5-7 days to become evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing is costlier compared to other approaches.
  • Outcome variability: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: The term "hair follicle tests" is misleading, as the test examines the hair strand, not the scalp-embedded hair follicle

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Williford, AR
Compared to urine tests, hair follicle tests stand out for their enhanced detection capabilities. Urine tests only detect recent drug use, whereas hair tests offer a detection window of up to 90 days. This provides a more comprehensive look at an individual's substance use history. Hair testing assures reliability, reducing the ambiguity often associated with urine samples.

While urine tests can be influenced by various external factors, hair follicle tests maintain consistency in results, providing a stable and accurate data point. In Williford, AR, organizations benefit from this superior accuracy as it minimizes false negatives and ensures a clearer understanding of past drug use. This reliability makes hair tests a preferred choice over traditional methods.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Williford, AR
The strength of hair follicle testing is in its ability to detect drug use over a considerably extended period. With a detection window reaching up to 90 days, employers gain a detailed view of an applicant's or employee's substance history. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
