Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle testing in Yorktown, Arkansas. For those requiring hair drug or alcohol testing, this service is provided by our national network of centers, expert in hair analyses. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is necessary from the crown or body for analysis. We provide drug, alcohol/ETG tests, or custom options with hair samples.

The prominence of hair follicle drug tests has increased as methods evolve. Organizations like employers, courts, and Substance Abuse authorities now prefer it over urine tests. With a longer detection window, up to 90 days, hair tests are preferred by those implementing stringent drug-free policies. While almost impossible to falsify, urine tests remain best for recent usage (within five days).

What it is, How it works

The utilization of hair testing has evolved into an effective means of identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-standing record of substances like alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within the hair strand as it grows. When gathered near the scalp, hair offers approximately a 90-day span for detecting alcohol and other substances. It is easy to collect hair, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to ship.

A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches and comprising around 200 strands (equivalent to a #2 pencil thickness) taken closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is ideal for screening and confirmation purposes. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests surpassing 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advised. We suggest utilizing a jeweler’s scale for measuring the sample. In cases where scalp hair is absent, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be utilized. "Head hair" refers exclusively to scalp hair, whereas "body hair" alludes to any other hair types (e.g., facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing for a drug test involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample undergoes initial processing within a laboratory’s system. This step includes confirming the proper sealing and shipment of the sample, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry not facilitated by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid analysis for substance abuse. While it is a cost-efficient means to eliminate drug usage across most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. All Screening samples that suggest positive results require secondary confirmation.

If a sample indicates a presumptive positive result during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepped for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other approaches (such as urine or oral fluid), which accounts for the challenging nature of performing hair drug screening.

The Confirmation of any positive screen result is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug consumption for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests with a shorter detection time frame.
  • Resilience against tampering: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely challenging, resulting in more accurate results.
  • Historical insights: It reveals a pattern of drug use over time, beyond just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs need about 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Compared to other drug testing methods, hair drug tests are generally pricier.
  • Variability in results: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth variations can influence drug metabolite concentration within hair.

Note: The term "hair follicle tests" is commonly used to describe these assessments, despite the analysis focusing on the hair strand rather than the scalp's hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Testing is Preferred Over Urine Testing

In Yorktown, AR, hair follicle tests provide superior benefits compared to urine tests. One key advantage is their unmatched accuracy in detecting long-term drug use, offering a comprehensive view. While urine tests are effective for recent consumption, hair tests excel in delivering highly reliable detections, reducing the chance of circumvention.

Extended Detection Window

The Extended Detection Window Advantage

Employers in Yorktown, AR, benefit from hair follicle testing due to its up to 90-day detection window. This extensive timeframe allows for a thorough evaluation of an individual’s drug use history, offering a detailed substance profile. Unlike short-term methods, this long window assists in assessing compliance and behavior patterns accurately.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Ensuring Test Integrity with Hair Samples

In Yorktown, AR, hair follicle tests are renowned for their tamper-resistant properties. The difficulty in altering hair samples ensures the accuracy and authenticity of results. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
