Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Artesia, California. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol assessment, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing, with centers available in all cities Nationwide equipped to conduct these tests. Typically, between 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is necessary. Hair tests can be configured for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair testing choices.

More recently, the preference for drug screening has shifted toward hair follicle tests. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals favor hair testing over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are employed by zero-tolerance policy employers, courts, and probationers. The main advantage of a hair test is its extended detection period, often as long as 90 days, collected through an observed method, making it highly resistant to tampering. Despite this, urine tests remain the gold standard for identifying drug use within the preceding 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair can chronicle a prolonged history of substance use by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the growing strand. When taken near the scalp, hair offers up to a three-month period for detecting alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively hard to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch length of around 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's thickness) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is unavailable, an equivalent amount of body hair can be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other varieties (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The four key stages in processing a drug test result at a laboratory include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

The Accessioning stage involves the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s procedures. This step checks that the sample was securely sealed and delivered, assigns it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fills in any missing details not included by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening stage provides a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient means to rule out drug use for most samples, a positive screen must be confirmed for court admissibility. Samples that appear tentatively positive during Screening will need further confirmation.

Should a sample appear presumptively positive in Screening, additional hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. This stage involves extracting drugs from hair at much lower concentrations than other methodologies like urine or oral fluid, making hair drug screening the most challenging to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screen result employs GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed prior to confirmation if necessary. The full laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed in accordance with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for as long as 90 days, whereas urine tests have a more limited detection timeframe.
  • Challenge to falsify: Cheating on a hair drug test is very difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It provides a timeline of drug use across an extended duration, not only recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair after roughly 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than other drug testing techniques.
  • Variance in outcomes: Individual factors such as hair color and growth rate can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Despite the common term "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing outshine urine testing in Artesia, CA? The reasons lie in its superior detection capabilities. Compared to traditional urine tests, hair analysis offers a broader detection window, representing drug use over the past weeks or even months. Urine tests typically cover only a few days. As such, hair tests provide a more comprehensive insight into an individual's substance use.

Moreover, hair follicle testing in Artesia proves to be remarkably reliable compared to its urine counterparts. Due to the extensive detection period and challenging nature of manipulating hair samples, the accuracy and reliability of this testing method surpasses that of urine testing. Employers and individuals alike can trust the outcomes to reflect genuine substance use patterns.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Artesia, CA offers significant benefits for employers. Unlike urine tests, which typically cover only a few days, hair testing can expose drug use over a period extending up to 90 days. This prolonged timeframe allows companies to get a complete picture of an individual's substance usage history.

By utilizing hair follicle tests to uncover extended periods of drug use, employers in Artesia can better assess the patterns and trends of potential or current employees. This assurance provides a broader understanding and can influence decisions regarding hiring or continued employment, ensuring a safer and more dependable workforce.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Artesia, CA, hair follicle testing stands as a reliable method due to its resistance to tampering. Unlike urine tests, which are susceptible to adulteration, hair tests virtually eliminate the chance of sample manipulation. This security ensures that the results are both authentic and definitive, offering peace of mind to those who rely on the outcomes.

The integrity provided by hair follicle tests can be particularly reassuring for organizations in Artesia that require accurate drug testing. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
