Process Overview
The laboratory process for drug testing comprises four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Drugs are extracted from the hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods like urine or oral fluid, hence, hair drug testing is the most challenging method to execute.
The Confirmation of any positive screen is conducted using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing before Confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is inspected under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair program and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.
